Greens election policy supports a 'transition' towards universal high quality free ECEC, including funding more high quality NFP ECEC services. Progress in a long term transition in the next term could be free ECEC for low income families and a National ECEC Commission as per PC report recs.

The perfect election issue is being overlooked by most politicians At some point, the major political parties will have to confront the failures in Australia’s early childhood education and care system head on.

Great to see The Greens and @stephhodgins-may.bsky.social backing the PC recommendation of a National ECEC Commission to hold the sector and State regulators to account on quality, safety, workforce and supply and act on poor performing providers. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-04...

Parliament has just passed the Three Day Guarantee bill removing a key barrier to access to early learning faced by many low income families. Big thank to Minister Jason Clare, Greens senator Hodgins May, and senators David Pocock, Tammy Tyrrell, Fatima Payman and Lidia Thorpe for their support.

Net out of pocket costs for a child in ECEC as a % disposable income fell by 38% after the 2023 Cheaper Childcare reforms according to today's PC's ROGS report but is too high for low income families. The PC's recommended 100% CCS rate for low income families would remove cost as a barrier to ECEC.

Happy New Year -back at work after 6 months away break mostly spent in the pretty Oxford village of Steeple Aston, which has a preschool dating back to 1871. Congrats to all involved in delivering the big ECEC reforms here in 2024 and look forward to getting my teeth into it all in 2025!

Incidentally I am sitting in my lounge room in Steeple Aston with a cup of tea and the heater on full blast reading Dandolos fascinating report on supply side vs demand side funding. I feel like you are just across the table from me.
