The mental gymnastics required to believe that state-mandated car dependency is actually "freedom".

Calm streets designed for people, not cars, are good for everyone.

In other words, that's **99.8%** of current road infra is dedicated solely to motor vehicles.
And so when the traffic remains the same (or worsens), what will the response be?
Yea, how about "mobility lane" projects?
And a 5-star rating of maiming and killing anyone outside of it! Crash testing should factor in impact risk to anyone in its path.
"You pay every time you board a bus, and that makes you think about whether you want to ride it. If you paid every time you used a parking space, you'd also think about whether you want to drive. Free parking doesn’t mean free markets; it often means freeloading."

“The kicker is that, contrary to the promises of state transportation depts, new & expanded highways consistently fail to reduce congestion. Instead of smoothing traffic flows, the added asphalt compels more people to drive until gridlock is as thick as before.” Via @davidzipper.bsky.social in Slate
Having a sheltered, lit, cameras, badge access only bike parking area with available showers is what did it for me! 🚲
Oh man!! They’re so fickle and seem to require so much finesse. You married well 🙂
Hopefully they didn’t give you too much of a hard time installing
☹️Priorities apparently!
Gov Healey’s new budget bill includes allowing speed cameras statewide (1 per 5k residents in a town). Hope this comes to fruition and cut down on bad driving
FWIW, the Walt Disney World Monorail moves approximately 7,000 passengers per hour. Even the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover moves about 4,880 passengers per hour. All better than Elon's tunnels.
And taxpayers usually foot the repair bills
Running some errands in Manhattan and it’s remarkable how light the traffic is even for this time of year. Only if you remember the before can you appreciate the after. Congestion pricing works.
Graphics fill of statistics on the efficiency or in efficiency of cars
A typical European car is parked 92% of the time. It spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, and most of the energy that does, moves the car, not the people.
Sound efficient?

this is actually insane data. every single politician like @govmurphy.bsky.social who opposes the congestion relief zone wants more people to get injured in car crashes
BJ's runs by bike...👌🏼
Yea! Plus, when it’s actually snowing, how many people are actually out driving? SUVs are mostly psychological comfort
