Of course the Italian government's ban for Deepseek for privacy issues does not affect the downloadable models (including the 670B). We pulled it from the Ollama repository with no fuss 😑

At CSSC, we tested deepseek-r1:7B, locally, on a MacBook Pro with 24G RAM. Replies were "ok", fast (even when "thinking") but not always precise or most efficient. We would judge it on par with similar models, but not superior. Admittedly, it's a far cry from the 670B model used for the API 🤔

And here we go! First position on my ERC grant is officially open. Fully funded 3.5 years PhD position at NetSI London working with me and the @nplab.bsky.social on modeling and reconstructing higher-order systems.
