Couldn’t ask for a much better run in, but I fear the worst!

New! 'Net Worth' projections available now too.
Chart showing effect on finances if I overpay my mortgage or pay more into a pension
This is the decision that I built the app for; if I can, should I overpay my mortgage or put money into my pension?
No! 😭
Turns out I can't retire at 50...
Oof! Turns out that financial modelling is hard!
I'm getting there though. My mortgage and pension calculations are much more robust and the UX is improving (I think!).
You can compare different scenarios.
I’ve been building a tool for simple financial projections.
Things like:
• Could I afford to go part-time?
• Should I downsize?
• What if I overpay my mortgage vs invest more in a pension?
Scratching my own itch, but it’s turning into something that might help others too.
Hoping to share it soon.
[We see a close up of a young white male, tanned, white teeth, coiffed hair clearly an influencer on social media. It is an image such as you see when social media posts are shown on the news. In the corner of the screen is named a location: DUBAI. He is staring slightly off-camera for several silent panels of the comic strip. His eyes move slightly. He is having a thought.] From off-screen a newsreader’s commentary comes: NEWSREADER: Extraordinary images here of an expat in Dubai [The influencer’s eybrows raise slightly] …Having their first ever geopolitical thought. [CUT TO a BBC news scene. The BBC newsreader CLIVE MYRIE is talking to an interviewee next to the screen showing the social media influencer’s face. The interviewee’s name is David Jones]. CLIVE MYRIE: To explain the significance of this moment we’re joined by David Jones, our Expat Thoughts correspondent DAVID JONES: Clive, this is momentous It was caught on film at the end of an Instagram post titled: ‘Dubai Is Brilliant’. [Pointing at the screen, the influencer’s expression still the same] You can clearly see in the eyebrows here, the dawning realisation that there *might* be something in the world beyond his dickhead self. It marks a *huge* departure from all the Dubai Expat’s previous thoughts. CLIVE MYRIE: Which are…? DAVID JONES: You've Got To Get Yourself Out Here Mate, Everything Is So Clean, I Don't Have To Pay Taxes, I Am Incurious As To Why I Do Not Have To Pay Taxes, and Spa. CLIVE MYRIE: And might we see an expansion of these new Thoughts in coming days? DAVID JONES: I think we can expect to see: “I Deserve To Be Airlifted By A Country I Pay No Tax To” CLIVE MYRIE: Mmm. [Ends]
We are terrible. A few decent results in the UCL papering over a really poor season. The league position doesn’t lie at this stage of the season. #nufc
Maybe we‘ve been in the wrong part of town, but it’s really dirty and run down. Graffiti everywhere. The Egyptian museum was great, though!
* #wceu people
Interested to hear what #wceu thought of Turin (Torino). I’m here now and not a massive fan…
I was definitely swayed by this convo. I‘d been (reluctantly) leaning towards Howe out, but despite some obvious areas to address, think he needs more time. Definitely a victim of his own success. We’re still punching above our weight overall (just not in the league).
Here's the deal, folks. I desperately need to make a mortgage payment, and only two clients would allow me to do that.
You can pay me now, and you'll have me booked for whenever you need me this year. If I can't find any improvements, get your money back hirejeffc.me#auditing-pro...
I’m also completely fed up, for all the same reasons.
Just wondering where your optimism comes from. We’re ok right now, I don’t see a compelling reason for post-Howe optimism.
I don’t 100% disagree, but what makes you so sure the post-Howe era will be better? Remember the pre-Howe era? #nufc
Some of my favourite games right there!
I'm also so discouraged by the current state of web development. Everything seems to have become more and more complicated.
Being able to quickly create and iterate is just so much fun.
Maybe it won't lead to anything. Maybe it will bite me in the ass. But I'm enjoying it for now.
There are some parallels with music. The costs of professional music production collapsed about a decade ago (maybe more).
Is there more terrible music around? Yes!
Is there a lot of amazing indie music being made? Definitely.
Bad business ideas is a different problem! And you probably talked them out of those ideas because you knew the cost and saw the risk.
With the barriers to entry tumbling, I'm excited to see what people create.
I have a different angle. I'm a creator/builder without the technical expertise that you have. I can't build these things myself. At least, not in any kind of timeframe that can hold my attention!
The speed of development and iteration is key for me. I need momentum and early feedback.
I just read it! Really interesting to get your perspective and probably good for me to hear about potential dangers.
However...what I've seen so far has REALLY impressed me. I haven't even looked at the code yet, but as a way to build working prototypes for app ideas, it's working well.
Hey #WordPress folks!
We're live this afternoon and we're going to be talking about the future for WP devs and agencies, and a bunch of other WP stuff.
Join us live at 13:30 GMT.
Oh, and I'm about to get a demo from a friend of mine about some coaching software that he's built.
He's a tennis coach.
We're doomed!
I agree with everything you say, and I much preferred the WP community in the earlier days.
I just think that this is 'normal' and there isn't really anyone to blame.
Would love to chat about this with you more in person!
The commodification started right at the beginning. All of the WP plugins that we use every day have taken work away from developers.
Before forms plugins, we could make thousands custom building form solutions.
The community/altruism phase was amazing, but it was a different time, globally and within the industry life-cycle. It was a growth phase in a stronger and more optimistic economy.
Now, the industry is saturated, demand is down and many of the things we used to custom build have been productised.
I feel your pain. This is inevitable though, right. I mean, isn’t this what happens in every industry?
Yep
