People began hoarding gas cylinders, and in the Delhi area, prices skyrocketed by 600 percent. Some people stood in line for three or four days to get LPG cylinders.
With his own supply running low, Kapoor had little choice but to turn to the black market.

This. N95’s can save lives from wildfire smoke. The scientific evidence of the damage caused by Particulate matter is clear and terrifying.

Ecoli 0157 H7 will kill you a lot faster than a cigarette. Unless you set yourself on fire with it. Which is why a recall saves lives. We would recall cigarettes if they turned us into human torches.
Also good points. It’s as if they want to undo the public health gains of the 20th century.
So eight. Bovine TB wanted of the plagues of the 19th century. Killed countless children in its day.
Ha. Sadly, spot on. But it made me laugh anyway.
Perfectly put.
Four points in this ongoing saga of raw cheese products in California worth repeating. 1) Recalls save lives. 2) Pasteurization saves lives. 3) We've known both things for more than 100 years. 4) Get a clue.
Scientists are going into politics in the US in increasing numbers. This is a brilliant and much needed trend

But you are absolutely right to call out the fairy tales told today about raw milk. And that we are lucky to live in a time when there are food safety laws in this country. 3/3
there alone. Even mill delivered in bottles was often thinned with dirty water and other dairy practices of the time. Including, yes, the use of formaldehyde as a preservative (embalmed milk) which also killed children. The US didn’t turn to full scale pasteurization until the 1930s. 2/3
Sorry, coming in here late but although, yes, some knew to heat treat milk in the 19th century (aside from pasteurization) it was indeed a matter of money and education. Most people did not; New York City published a report in the mid-19th century detailing 1000s of children killed by raw milk 1/3
The Staggering Ignorance of Trump Administration Officials: the Drug-Resistant TB Edition
Over at The Handbasket, Marisa Kabas has a terrifying excerpt about Trump administration officials' ignorance of basic biology from Nicholas Enrich's new book, Into the Wood Chipper: A Whistleblower's Account…
Disappointed, though not surprised, I began to describe various life- saving components of USAID’s global health portfolio, highlighting how we prepare for and respond to emerging pandemic threats; support the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis, malaria, and HIV; and immunize millions of children from the deadliest childhood diseases. I spoke for about five minutes, focusing primarily on our infectious diseases work and hoping to keep the attention of people who seemed to have no experience—or interest—in global health. When I finished, the room was silent, the political appointees looking at one another in what appeared to be disbelief. The silence was broken by Ken Jackson, who chuckled softly and shook his head. “Wow, there really is so much that USAID does that we never knew,” he said. “This is the story that needs to get out there.” Joel, also smiling, chimed in next, echoing Jackson’s amazement. “I had no idea you did all this,” he said. “As a Republican, when I think of what USAID does in global health, I assumed it was just, you know, abortions.”
This is NUTS

This made me laugh.
Yes, good point. And a reminder that the agency's history of protecting the consumer, over the company, is mixed at best.
That's an interesting point. And undoubtedly true for some buyers. Others, I suspect, like the idea of "natural" performance enhancement. Which is really the bait and switch part of the story.
