the thing everyone is going to have to accept is that the post-trump period, whenever it comes, will not and cannot be a project of national unity, it must be a project of partisan project of renewal, in the same way that reconstruction and the new deal were partisan projects of renewal.

When Moderation Becomes Appeasement If your chief goal is to find a middle ground with the far right on social issues, you’ll end up condoning its values—just ask Keir Starmer.

This is worth thinking about.

The Perito Moreno Glacier is suffering an ‘irreversible’ retreat after losing nearly 2,000 meters in seven years Scientists warn that climate change is the main cause of the loss of mass in South America’s most famous glacier

Perito Moreno, arguably the most famous glacier in Argentina, is now retreating. Glaciologists marveled at its unusual stability 20 years ago. This is very sad to see. english.elpais.com/climate/2025...

Hi, this is Meg Barnette, Brad's wife.

While escorting a defendant out of immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza, Brad was taken by masked agents and detained by ICE.

This is still developing, and our team is monitoring the situation closely.

I suggest folks start putting "anti-AI statements" in their publications and talks. For example, state that you didn't use AI for any aspect of your work and that you didn't cite any studies that used AI.

This shows worker solidarity and makes visible the collective action against AI.

Count the Dead by the Millions From HIV and tuberculosis infections to millions of dead children, the deadly impact of Rubio, Musk and Trump’s agenda has been quantified.

A new study models the impact of the implosion of U.S.-funded disease treatment and prevention in the developing world — and suggests that Elon Musk and Marco Rubio will go down as among history’s greatest monsters if funding and effective administration are not restored.

Excerpt from Rutgers University Senate resolution calling for a Mutual Academic Defense Compact. The excerpt reads:

"BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the Rutgers University Senate urges the President of Rutgers University to formally propose and help establish a Mutual Academic Defense Compact (MADC) among all members of the Big Ten Academic Alliance;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, under this compact, all participating institutions shall commit meaningful funding to a shared or distributed defense fund. This fund shall be used to provide immediate and strategic support to any member institution under direct political or legal infringement;"

This exciting resolution from Rutgers University Senate is exactly the kind of model I think higher ed needs: a mutual defense pact of, in this case, Big 10 schools. They call for member institutions to create a joint defense fund and make resources available to any member institution under attack.

NEWS ANALYSIS Fair or Not, Zelensky Is Angering Trump. Is His Style Hurting Ukraine? Through three years of wartime leadership, Ukraines president has mostly played weak hands wisely. But his approach has fallen fat with the Trump administration.

It is hotly debated in Ukraine whether Mr.
Zelensky erred in his messaging by responding to insults from Mr. Trump with a few snipes of his own, rather than diplomatically navigating the U.S. president's attacks. Though Mr. Trump's claim that Ukraine started the war with Russia was clearly false, Mr. Zelensky infuriated him by publicly correcting the record and claiming the American president was trapped in a "web of disinformation" peddled by the Kremlin.
Was his response a necessary defense of national interests? Or a misstep in dealing with an empowered leader who broaches no criticism and essentially holds Ukraine's fate in his hands?

Over the past two weeks, Mr. Zelensky has declined to sign the minerals deal and said he would not accept any outcome of Mr.
Trump's negotiations if Ukraine were not represented. He also has been pursuing diplomatic efforts to shore up European support.
But even backers in Ukraine of this diplomatic strategy say Mr. Zelensky's showmanship is an issue.
Rather than once laying out Ukraine's position, Mr. Zelensky reiterated at a security conference in Munich, a news conference in Turkey's capital and two news conferences in Kyiv that he would reject Mr. Trump's negotiations if they exclude Ukraine.

BREAKING: Mexican President Sheinbaum argues that if cartels are deemed terrorist orgs, then the suppliers of weapons—over 74% of which come FROM the U.S.—should ALSO face accountability for enabling terrorism.

As a result, Mexico is expanding its lawsuit targeting U.S gun manufacturers. 🇲🇽

I think if people are throwing Nazi salutes around at the official gathering of American conservatives, then it’s perfectly fine to call American conservatives Nazis.

The Trump Administration Might Just Spend $400 Million on 'Armored' Teslas Donald Trump's administration expects to spend $400 million on 'armored' vehicles made by Elon Musk's Tesla.

I gotta admit, seeing this level of open corruption goes a long way towards explaining why the Imperial stormtroopers' gear in Star Wars turned out to be completely useless the first time some stone-age teddy bears started throwing hands.

Time for journalists to catch ourselves when we use the term “dubious.” As in “dubious legal authority.” Our job is to find out, and if it’s illegal, call it that.
