I had an epiphany about that with books a couple years ago. Then more recently it occurred to me that's all of life. How happy we are is largely a function of whether something met our expectations. Sometimes the thing is the problem, but often it's our expectations instead.

There's this bizarre disconnect between worldview and political interests. They say want less government, more freedom, stay out of people's business---but they also believe humans are fundamentally evil and can't be trusted.
So...what does this person think of married men who adopt because they can't have biological children?
The amount of nonsense we say to our cats while working...
But will anything change?
I've also never seen any evidence that he's any good at negotiating. What has he uniquely accomplished in his life?
Way too much gelato; not enough espresso.
Congrats!
What do you think you mean by this?
I have sat front row to that show with my wife. And it's crazy how doctors' reactions change when I speak up on her behalf instead of just letting her speak for herself. She gets resistance/skepticism. I usually get prompt compliance. We've had complete 180s numerous times.
I'm afraid of my family reading my work because they might recognize the inspiration for some of the character conflicts.
You mean you're now stuck, or you got unstuck and are now finished?
None of Trump's supporters believe that Iran actually stopped their nuke program with Obama's JCPOA. So they'll never acknowledge this.
Wtf timeline is this.
While procrastinating this book, I've wondered if I would have the patience to query for trad pub. By the time I finish the book, I doubt I'll even want to work with any of them.
I absolutely love this show and Nate's rushed arc is its only flaw. I see the character they wanted to portray--the actor captures it perfectly--but he just didn't get the right screen time. Ironic, in a show that just kept ballooning episode length to cover the ever growing list of subplots.
Exactly. He needed more big 'stroke of genius' victories for which Ted accidentally took credit. Or more scenes of other people (eg Rupert) giving him unearned confidence. But it works best if it's Ted's fault for just not realizing that Nate needed direct affirmation.
It needed more time. We didn't see enough of his frustration, or instances where Ted accidentally cut him out. We didn't see their personalities conflicting enough to justify his sudden massive tantrum and betrayal. I had to read that slow burn into the interstices; it should have been on screen.
Awesome. Caregiver live is sequestered, but I'd leave the apt for that. The way Shesheshen and Homily talk about bodies--things that can betray you but you're trapped in them--hit me hard. It's how my wife talks about her illness. I would love to (immunocompromised equivalent of) shake your hand.
DC?
Home prices everywhere are cooked because of private equity. It shouldn't be legal for a business to own standalone homes.
Congrats on “opening” a strait that was open six weeks ago, and all it cost was at least 13 dead service members, thousands of dead Iranian civilians, tens of billions in taxpayer dollars, our loss in global standing, and the Iranian regime’s increase in power. Phenomenal work.
I might be more excited about this one than my wife is (she's the artist and animation geek). Magic discover story with Ann Perkins as the mom? Hell yes
Who's got a recent writing victory they want to share? I don't care how small. I need something to cheer for.
Twitter worked when it was still Twitter. I liked that platform.
The sad part is that we are in a weird era where some things actually *were better* when we were younger. That probably wasn't true until somewhere in the early 2000s. Maybe the start of the subprime mortgage bubble.
Reminds me of the work triangle rule, that you can't have something high quality, done fast, and at low cost. You can only pick two.
I saw a funny summary a year or so back re AI images but it applies to writing too. Something like:
"AI was advertised as a tool to help creative people offload the tedious tasks. Instead it's helping tedious people offload the creative tasks."
You can't topple oppressive governments with bread. Everyone knows you need cake for that.
To be fair, it made them more resistant to freezing temperatures, which makes them cheaper because their growing season is much longer. They get huge and bland from bad farming practices that have nothing to do with GMO. Poor soil and selective breeding for size, color, firmness, but not flavor.
