And also better medical treatments means that more people survive what would have been fatal illnesses and accidents not long ago. But not rarely they are left with some disabilities or chronic illnesses. From babies born prematurely to cancer, strokes, brain injuries and so on.

Absolutely right @andyburnham.bsky.social 👏
The only concession that needs to be made on the PIP cuts is throwing them in the bin.
The Government should make the tough choice of going after their rich billionaire donors.
A decision that will actually be hard for them.
It sounds familiar...
A brown piece of card being held with one hand. Written in the card is blue felt pen is the following text ‘Being ill isn’t a crime. Asking for help isn’t a crime. Stop this government from #TakingThePip.’ The photo is taken from a lying in bed position. In the foreground of a bedroom decorated in Art Deco-style, there is a child-sized walking frame & a small, manual wheelchair.
#OnlineProtest #StayAtHomeProtest STOP this government from #TakingThePip because being ill isn’t a crime & neither is asking for help. No one should fear growing old, getting sick or becoming disabled in the UK! @fight4lifeuk.bsky.social - Solidarity with all my #DisabledCommunity
Solidarity! Together we can be strong, supporting each other...the government can try to make our lives more difficult, but we will keep on fighting for ALL of us to have our best lives
Let’s end the involvement of profit-driven multinational companies and poorly trained staff. Assessments should be based on the expertise of real doctors and healthcare professionals, not a flawed system. #takingthepip #fight4life #disabilitybenefits
Far too often, individuals who are genuinely unwell and disabled receive 0 points across the board. The fight doesn’t end tomorrow. We need to ensure a fair assessment process for everyone.
At first glance, it might seem fair that you need 4 points to qualify for PIP. But we all know the truth, many sick and disabled people are already denied the support they need because of incompetent and cruel assessors.
DWP says 150,000 more people pushed into poverty by benefit cuts - not 250,000 as forecast said before U-turn The Department for Work and Pensions has just published an analysis saying that, allowing for the concesssions announced last week, the welfare cuts will still push an extra 150,000 people into relative poverty.
I’m sorry, the DWP announcing “don’t worry, the benefits u-turn means only 150,000 people will be pushed into poverty now!” is just insane. Cruel, incompetent ghouls who shouldn’t be allowed to run a bath let alone a system sick people rely on to live.
The “welfare reform bill” is out and let’s be clear: this is not reform - it is devastating cuts. Disabled people will be made poorer, sicker, and more isolated as a result. That it is a Labour government causing this misery will be a mark of shame on the party for years to come.

More than 100 of the UK’s most high-profile disabled people, including Liz Carr, Ruth Madeley and Rosie Jones, urge the Prime Minister to abandon the “catastrophic plans to cut disability benefits”.

There are 650 MPs and after the GE 411 of them were Labour. A huge majority.
I'm actually extremely disappointed that only about 10% of them are saying disability cuts are impossible to support.
Quite shocking really.
EXC - 42 MPs have signed a letter to Keir Starmer saying the disability cuts are “impossible to support”
PM is facing biggest rebellion of the parliament over welfare vote
MPs call for pause and rethink until fuller impact assessments can be done in autumn and warn disabled people are frightened
It’s time we stand up, not to demand new rights, but to defend the ones we already have. Rights that were hard-won are now under threat.
No one else is going to fight this battle for us.
We owe it to ourselves, and to every generation that struggled before us, not to stay silent.

When we face tough times, our social security system should be there to support us.
But the UK government is planning to slash support for disabled people. This would impact thousands of people like Steve.
❗ But this isn't a done deal yet. Email your MP now

A graphic with two screenshots of a video where Steve shares his experience of turning to a food bank. The top photo shows Steve's legs walking down the street - two walking sticks are visible. The subtitles read: 'I'm going to be unable to work for probably the rest of my life'. The second screenshot shows the back of Steve walking through a neighbourhood. Subtitles read: 'when I started claiming the benefits, it was nowhere near enough to cover even the basics'.
Steve’s life changed completely after an injury left him unable to work.
He got little support from the social security system, and the amount he received wasn't even enough to cover essentials, like food and bills.
Steve was left with no option but to turn to a food bank.
