"Oh Christ any asshole with an *Italian milsurp* rifle can pick off like 99.999% of any of us, the most important people in the world in 1963? We're actually fine if you guys think that us, the Mafia, and three space aliens working together was ALL necessary to pull that off successfully, thanks."

Oswald was in fact a lone gunman who pulled it off, and the federal LE/IC apparatus got so freaked at the fact that *any whacko with a Carcano could just fucking DO that* that they wink-and-nudged at conspiracists for years to discourage copycats as well as obfuscating how easy it was for a rando.

Dozens of AI disease-prediction models were trained on dubious data The models are designed to predict someone’s risk of diabetes or stroke. A few might already have been used on patients.

This is why I keep banging on about the importance of trained humans in the loop for data analyses. You *cannot* just take a dataset and run, especially not unattributed data from kaggle. You *must* do the due diligence to look for artifacts, outliers, and edge cases with your actual human eyes.

Flooding in Chicago is getting worse. Here's why. Blamed in part on climate change, the threat of water ponding in your yard or your basement is growing, a Sun-Times/WBEZ investigation has found, putting health, homes at risk.

"Over the past century in Chicago, the likelihood of heavy rainstorms has increased sevenfold."

“I Have Lost Everything”: The Toll of Cities’ Homeless Sweeps Cities often take belongings — including important documents and irreplaceable mementos — when they conduct sweeps of homeless encampments. ProPublica gave notecards to people across the country so th...

We asked people who lived in homeless encampments that were cleared out in city “sweeps” to write about what object was the hardest for them to lose.

“They took my baby pictures and my moms obituaries,” a man in California wrote.

My horror and distaste for gambling seemed has always felt like a niche belief that was mostly irrelevant to my daily life. I don't like how salient it has become.

We still tap MAC and go to concerts at Spaghetti Warehouse. Philly doesn’t accept new names. Our defiance builds community. Don’t like it? Go pound sand up Delaware Avenue.

As a Philadelphian, I agree wholeheartedly with every word of this article (gift link). share.inquirer.com/sYJXm1

Now we just need @farfarraway.bsky.social to do an article on our tendency to give directions based on where things USED to be. "Take a left at the old Girard Bank...."

My reflection on COVID is that it sucked for everyone, but it sucked for everyone differently, and a lot of broken friendships and family strife are the result of people assuming that everyone else had the exact same COVID experience they did.

The Capitol has something called "the office of the attending physician" — in other words, Members have their own, on-site, doctor.

Oh, and there's also WRNMMC, you may have heard of Fetterman going there?

1) Understand that "health insurance" is not the same thing as "health care." Your MoC is not getting care in the overflow hallway you got stuck in for 12 hours, he's on the VIP floor (you know most, if not all, major 🏥 have a VIP area, right?)

Everyone needs to read Matthew's latest post, because this is what's in store for all of us at some point--being harmed by HCWs whose inadequate training & supervision are policy choices--unless we mobilize to reverse MAHA's cuts to Medicaid & Medicare
