Good to hear. It’s sort of a last resort. I’ve had to do it a couple of times. Had some side benefits , but not something I’d care to do regularly.

Early evening half-moon

Early evening half-moon

I’ve returned after a long absence. I was among the first few thousand in the beta and it was fun. When it reached 10K, not so much as X-types started showing up. I’m back to see if social norms have curbed the spread.

Our Airedale recovered. It only cost $3,000 (in 1994), but she was worth it.

If I want to criticize, I have to go to Mastadon? Really, dude. You’re being ironic, right? Have you no facility of self-reflection?

Bye, bye, Miss American Pie

The barbarians at the gate have arrived with the latest wave. Today’s examples

1. Someone who purports to be pharma boy

2. Shameless commerce by newsreader offering a discount on latest book

3. Shade from fan of newsreader: go to Mastodon if you don’t like it.

Alternatively, I could go back to Twitter where there are no social norms. You know, like telling people to get out of Dodge because you don’t like what they have to say? It’s all a matter of who you want to direct censor at. The vibe here was chill until the latest wave of invites. sad, but heck.

What about the horse I rode in on?

Yeah, but that was before Amazon and it would otherwise be hard to find. But I’m resigned to theQuixotic nature of my quest.

I’m trying to preserve the innocence of the early vibe. Or at least stave off twitterization. Probably futile.

Harsh but fair. I prefer to think of it as trying to help shape cultural norms for this incubation period. It took two months for direct solicitations to show up. Wish it could last longer and authors could talk about their work without the click here part.

I know, but I’m just not ready for the Age of Innocence here to end so early. The past couple of months have been really refreshing.

Sure. Not accusing you of being cheap. Just that here is new and fresh and unspoiled by the Original Sin of Advertising. Just tell us a little about what it’s about and why you wrote it? Like at a cocktail party. (And if you will, I promise to buy it. )

Talk is fine. Ads are not here, yet. I’m fine with “let me tell you about my new book.” Just don’t care to see “buy now for 20%” off. Right now, here isn’t just commercials

Bad form, Jake. The Sky is still like the early internet, which didn’t register domains for commercial use. Hopefully, someone will figure out an advertiser opt-in feature. Can understand why you don’t want to pay the MuskOx for an as, but not here, please.

Sublime Text have a product Sublime Merge with a helpful GUI. I just use CLI but only ever clone, add, commit, push or pull. To avoid the authentication dance with https and expiring PATs use ssh

Falling out of love is a funny thing. Everything is good, until, suddenly, it isn't. But it's not only romance. Tastes shift out from under the feet across the boards. I just threw over an IDE after 15 years of being mostly ok. Robert Hunter and Blaise Pascal nailed it.

So, what do you think the ask will be that she’s banking it for? (Still, a sweet kid. )

Two months in my proportion of recognized cultural references is asymptomatically approaching zero. I can’t tell if something is a fresh meme or an invocation of the Wayback Machine. My way of life had fallen in the sere. Woe.

My son was 50 before I began to think of him as an adult, not that he was immature, but I didn’t think I was old enough to have a kid his age.

Gordon Lightfoot died yesterday, closing out another musical catalog. Whether it was being stuck on the grass where the cold wind blows, or standing on the highway with a sign that just said ‘mother’ he comes down now on the summer side of life.
