In other personal news, I became a parent recently. I was just thinking how I've been around long enough to have known more than one person who was alive in the 19th century, while there's a good chance my kid will see the 22nd. Four fucking centuries. That's so weird.

It's crazy because everyone assured me they'd ultimately settle, because something like 98% of these cases do. But it was worth it to go to trial just to see their faces when they ended up with nothing.

Believe me I've thought about it, but it's just not worth the time and money. If I had infinite resources, I absolutely would.

(11/11) It's a relief to finally be able to talk about it. The legal system is crazy and you can literally sue anyone for anything. We were even prepared to file for bankruptcy if necessary. But it's over, and the plaintiff got nothing for their efforts. And I can finally fucking breathe again!

(10/11) I was found not liable. One of the most bizarre, frustrating and nerve-wracking periods of my life was finally over. I'm still processing it. Everything else in the world might still be terrible, but at least there was this one small victory. There's more to the story, but that's the gist.

(9/11) After two days of pre-trial motions, a day of jury selection, two days of actual trial, and about a half hour of deliberation, the verdict came in.

(8/11) Miraculously, there was another last-minute rescheduling which allowed us to once again attend the show. Soon after, I was back in LA for the trial, a mere three and a half years after the accident.

(7/11) It got postponed again until January. Woohoo, I still get to see the show! A couple months later, the 2026 dates were announced. I bought tickets for the show nearest to me, but wouldn't you know it, the trial was once again scheduled for the same week. This was starting to feel intentional.

(6/11) The following month, my wife and I moved across the country, for unrelated reasons. We had been making plans for the move since the beginning of the year, naively thinking the trial would be long over by the fall.

(5/11) The case dragged on. I gave multiple sworn depositions. The plaintiff wanted a jury trial, and it was scheduled for May 2025. It got postponed until August, coincidentally at the same time of the Nine Inch Nails concert I was planning to attend. What luck!

(4/11) My insurance company offered them a settlement. They refused, demanding more money. Insurance company offered the full policy limit, they still refused. Insurance company asked me if I wanted to throw in some of my own money to "sweeten the deal" for the plaintiff. I said they can kick rocks.

(3/11) The plaintiff claimed "catastrophic" injury caused by the incident (plus the obligatory pain & suffering), which was laughable when compared to the photos of the damage to both vehicles, a small dent in the corner of the bumper. Except it's not quite as funny when you're the one getting sued.

(2/11) Living in a city that's increasingly overrun with billboards and bus ads for ambulance chasing accident lawyers promising huge payouts, I shouldn't have been surprised when I soon got served with papers notifying me that I was now the defendant in a lawsuit for an absurd amount of money.

(THREAD ALERT 1/11) Back in 2022, I was involved in a very minor traffic accident. Insurance info was exchanged, photos taken, thought that was the end of it (other than my premiums going up). Boy, was I wrong.

Look I never play this card but I studied German politics and the rise of fascism and this IS THAT. We have arrived at the end game. Not hyperbole or exaggeration this is THE EXACT LANGUAGE. Anyone who has studied this recognizes it like a meteorologist seeing a gathering hurricane
