Why MAGA men actually loathe tradwives A new study shows submissive women aren't cherished but are held in contempt

The right's pitch for women's submission is that it will cause men to provide, protect, and cherish women.

Turns out the opposite is true. Research shows conservative men see tradwives as lazy parasites. They loathe them.

It’s not particularly sophisticated but I kind of think that the most straightforward way to understand trumpism is that we have a morally depraved group of fascists who have successfully persuaded a significant chunk of the public to accept their psychological projections as reality

The crossword has a radical history. A puzzle veteran explores why Natan Last’s book delves into the crossword's century-long story, exploring what the grids we solve reveal about news and culture.

Happy publication day, @natanlast.bsky.social, whose fascinating deep dive into the crossword puzzle’s history, ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, drops today! I think @mathitak.bsky.social sums the brilliance of this book up quite nicely: www.latimes.com/entertainmen...

At the counter of Russ & Daughters, sitting beside two ladies who seem to be sampling their first bagels & lox, nodding to each other and speaking in emphatic Chinese. New York is the greatest city in the world. Waves of immigration, assimilation and cross-cultural pollination make it so.

Congratulations to @markzdanielewski.bsky.social and the amazing @pantheonbooks.bsky.social team working to get Tom’s Crossing out into the world. I wish I could quote the entire @nytimes.com review, which calls it an “audacious…epic about epics.” This isnt a book, it’s an event. bit.ly/4ofKhfh

White House begins demolishing East Wing facade to build Trump’s ballroom The president had claimed construction of the $250 million ballroom wouldn’t “interfere” with the existing White House structure.

I hope the subcontractors got paid up front, because if this goes like any other Trump construction project, they’re screwed—just like the American people. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

The right to speak our minds and to disagree with each other - to disturb, even - is at the very heart of what it means to be a free people. It is not to be denied. Not by violence, not by the abuse of governmental power, nor by acts of corporate cowardice.
As a Guild, we stand united in opposition to anyone who uses their power and influence to silence the voices of writers, or anyone who speaks in dissent. If free speech applied only to ideas we like, we needn't have bothered to write it into the Constitution. What we have signed on to - painful as it may be at times - is the freeing agreement to disagree.
Shame on those in government who forget this founding truth. As for our employers, our words have made you rich.
Silencing us impoverishes the whole world.

Let’s be clear about what happened to Jimmy Kimmel Trump’s most brazen attack on free speech yet.

After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like.

Last night a federal judge in L.A. blocked federal agents from DHS from using crowd-dispersal techniques and less-lethal munitions against journalists covering protests. He cited an “avalanche of evidence” that ICE and CBP agents violated First Amendment rights of journalists.
