This briefing was written by Kasey McCall-Smith @kmccallsmith.bsky.social and M. J. Grant @campaignbear.bsky.social in conjunction with the @uknpm.bsky.social. It summarises the findings of an expert workshop at @uoelawschool.bsky.social last summer.

In advance of #HumanRightsDay I’m proud to join @campaignbear.bsky.social & @UKNPM.bsky.social in launching the 1st phase output from our #EnviroConditionsOfDetention project. Ending #torture & #CIDT requires taking care to pay attention to the smaller details in all detention settings.

Dr Kasey McCall-Smith and Dr Morag J. Grant are raising awareness of how the environmental conditions of places of detention affect prisoners and other people deprived of their liberty, and may even contribute to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or torture.
