When I looked at the (sadly only) 2 proposals for redeveloping 90 Washington St., I thought, well this is pretty obvious! One genuinely cool and green proposal with 600 housing units, including 120 affordable, and nice civic space, and another with a comically huge garage in the middle. Silly me.

He's a liar and a killer. I don't know what else to tell people, he's a rich eugenicist, he wants as many poor people as possible to die in the name of 'health.' He's a genuinely and uniquely malign figure in American life and his appointment was an act of violence
Dying in office because you insisted on clinging to power until the very end instead of letting a new generation of leaders rise should be seen for the shameful, egomaniacal act that it is.
it is validated as a heartbreaking work of genius by the muppet show version alone. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNnr...
I'm in this picture and not sure how I feel about it
You can’t do that to rural voters! What are they, black people? bsky.app/profile/coll...
Any mention of target shooting in France reminds me of the time when I was about 13 and already a pretty good shot (10m air rifle mainly). We were on holiday in Brittany and went to a country fair where there was a .22 rifle shooting gallery. Other teenagers were having a go, so I paid 10 francs-
It was 1992, then the sport was gender segregated for the first time in 1996.

Or just simply because ohgoshthehorror a woman won. At least one of the Olympic shooting events was a mixed field. Then in either 88 or 92, a woman won the gold and by the next Olympics it was segregated. Something similar happened in figure skating I think, though much earlier. (posted too soon)

screenshot of April 21 Wash PO editorial board: "Virginia plunges America deeper into the gerrymandering abyss The redistricting scheme was always a power grab by Democrats. Voters went along with it."
listen hun if you can't handle the Washington Post editorial board at their the Texas gerrymander "freakout" is "not a threat to democracy" you don't deserve them at their "Virginia plunges America deeper into the gerrymandering abyss"
The implicit media consensus is that urban voters should not be able to overrule rural voters, but that rural voters should be able to overrule urban voters, an assumption so axiomatic and unquestionable that nobody even understands they're making it.
I would submit that a gerrymander by politicians saying fuck the voters and one by voters saying fuck the politicians are two wholly different animals
So weird that Trump just happens to choose the course of action most favorable to Russian interests and no one else
TFW Sullivan & Cromwell charges you $1200 an hour for a Yale graduate to ask grok “is this argument sus”
What I always find striking about this is that it's not actually a difficult question to answer. It's an answer that frequently requires nuanced and complex responses appealing to historical or regional contexts, standards, etc, but it's not HARD to give that first answer, whatever it might be.
This is monstrous. Just profoundly shameful behavior by our government.

Breaking News: President Trump is said to be in talks to send Afghans who helped the U.S. war effort to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This is horrific. I feel physically ill.

Is there any modern equivalent of a country starting a war they fundamentally don't have the stones for and then losing it so thoroughly and so quickly
Nothing has killed more soldiers in the history of humanity than disease. While worst is a more complicated question Hegseth is absolutely the dumbest secretary of defense the United States has ever had. bsky.app/profile/ones...
Norm does not really need me to qrt him, but we've talked for months about this family and this is an incredible deed among so many like it. The story of the occupation of the Twin Cities is people putting everything they have into helping their neighbors. Proud to call Norm a friend.
Not by coincidence, "white supremacists are the Republicans Party's constituents and they don't want it pointed out" is the real reason why those of us who study and teach it are losing our jobs.
everyone with real American manliness and a basic knowledge of military history knows that serious war efforts have never been derailed by such trifling matters as "communicable diseases"
CRAFT WARS is a Hugo Finalist! I'm very grateful to be nominated, and extremely pleased by the company!
The other neat bit was this quote:
“Mesopotamians charged interest on loans before they discovered how to put wheels on carts.” Zing!
On the one hand, I've always found the history of banking and banking laws to be a somewhat dry subject needing a strong writer to bring out some of the awesomeness that is surely hidden away in there somewhere.
On the other hand, "The First Loan Closings in History" (parts one and two) delivers.

We have a kid at Hampshire. The board mishandled this so badly that nearly all staff and faculty are being booted with minimal notice and zero severance: www.amherstindy.org/2026/04/20/e...
