Southern Poverty Law Center says it faces a DOJ criminal probe over paid informants The Alabama-based civil rights organization made the announcement Tuesday, saying President Donald Trump's administration appears to be preparing legal action against it or its employees.

Fair said the group no longer uses paid informants, but pushed back hard on the investigation, saying those informants “risked their lives to infiltrate and inform on the activities of our nation’s most radical and violent extremist groups.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center announced its under Justice Dept investigation targeted for its past use of paid informants to infiltrate extremist groups. Interim CEO Fair said in a video that the Trump administration has “made no secret of who they want to protect and who they want to destroy.”
