Looks like a bloodbath for Viktor Orbán in Hungary

With 29.2% of votes counted, the opposition TISZA party is up to 132 seats in the projection while Orbán’s FIDESZ trails with 59

TISZA needs 133 seats to secure a two-thirds majority to repeal Orbán’s authoritarian constitutional changes

Forward Weekly — Alberta's Sunday Political Digest — Web Edition

Powerful piece in the new Forward Weekly summarizing the Alberta govt’s unspoken aim with its involuntary treatment laws: shoring up profitable, anti-Indigenous corporate interests while expanding the carceral state.

Giller Prize is no longer partnered w Indigo Books, Azrieli Foundation & Scotiabank

In 2023, comrades were arrested protesting the Giller. Then, thousands of writers & book workers refused participation.

“Spreadable” butter is a scam. You get less actual butter because they just blend in canola oil. It’s more expensive than butter but just a margarine equivalent for fancy people. Stay artificial, folks.

these closures are the implementation of the policy choice to exclude a specific group of people from the category of *the public* – this is dehumanization

and it is a choice being made throughout Canada

This is a good reason to have more stringent disclosure requirements around expert testimony. To me, what you’re describing should be criminal

A thing about scientific studies: they’re not all made equal.

Some are politically motivated, which is OK — objectivity is a false notion.

Others are corrupt, fraudulent and financially conflicted.

Others still are all of these things.

You be the judge:

Centre of Recovery Excellence attempts to conceal Research Review Council The Research Review Council formed in early 2025 with government authors of a recent fraudulent study on supervised consumption services. But, when asked for records of the council's authorized projects, CoRE denies its very existence.

This story starts by uncovering the conspicuous secrecy of Alberta’s Centre of Recovery Excellence, set up to conduct substance use ‘research.’

Next, it summarizes what happens when ‘research’ is done by government staff with clear political motivations. 1/

This is such a "judge people by the company they keep" moment if there ever was one. I think often of Josh Johnson's hilarious casually dropped term, "your white friend's white friend". The 1st friend nvr realizes they do not bring up their friend in defending wrongdoing; they just lower themselves.

I don't think it's a "problem" that there are fewer teen pregnancies. I think fewer teen pregnancies is a good thing, actually,

What year was this? I heard about lots of sketchy stuff going on there 2-3 years ago. @zoedodd.bsky.social was there with others one of those years speaking out as Rob Tanguay and Vincent Lam were pushing their agenda.

“The political impacts of the [flawed] study have thus far included the scheduled closures of no fewer than nine supervised consumption sites in Ontario and Alberta in June, as well as unexpected delays in opening Manitoba's first site.”

I learned while preparing this story that research watchdog Retraction Watch no longer recommends going to publication editors or authors about research misconduct.

Instead, they suggest going straight to the employer institution’s research integrity office. 2/

I've experienced some things at the hands of Alberta government freedom of information offices, but I never expected I'd get Dennis Nedry'd by one:
