Expected to begin rehab assignment shortly, I believe

Sox broadcast had an update on him, and as a UVa homer I am excited for his return
I'm pretty sure Edgar Quero just had the most valuable challenge of the year, and the best game of challenges all year to boot. Pretty funny given that he came into today in literal last place on the Baseball Savant ABS leaderboard
Sal Stewart getting Big Mad for no reason after striking out to end a 3-0 loss is very relatable
Awesome article. And of course, shameless plug for the FanGraphs Lab, McLean's sinker/sweeper combo looks absolutely hilarious there:
A day late, but if you are in the mood for some mind-bending dominance, you should read about Mason Miller turning opponents into salt
More charitably, maybe he wanted to describe May as like a recent Cardinals sinker guy, didn't want to be sacreligious and say Waino, and just tossed out a name
Maybe it's easier to remember Matz's time on the Cardinals if you choose to wildly misremember it
The wildest part - it was about Dustin May's sinker
The Cards broadcast just described a pitch as a "Steven Matz-like offering" and I had to think for a quite a while before I realized it was complimentary
And then here to Rafael Devers:
Has anyone tried turning Aaron Nola off, and then turning him back on again? Because you can't locate here to Luis Arraez:
I'm not sure what exactly went down here, but I like to think the Sox dugout is just playing a complicated version of three-card monte all game long:
We're gonna need a bigger strike zone plot...
Great data-driven way of showing how curveballs aren't really "tunnel" pitches. They're just these big goofy arcs that no one can hit
not sure, honestly. seems like a cool idea though
This is cool as hell and you should check it out. It also pairs really well with a feature we have on our BPro pitcher pages: The Tunnels tab, which estimates how much each pitch in a guy's arsenal looks like each of their other pitches from the batter's POV

I see these plots. I know how they work, and that they work correctly. And yet, I can't make myself understand how Imai does that.
We made a new data viz so you can see how your favorite pitcher's pitches work together. Or your least favorite pitcher, or any pitcher at all, I guess.
Working out the right 'tunneling' formula to work in a way where you can drag around like this is really hard. I'm working on a few ideas. This is much lower hanging fruit, though.
Doing it in some kind of profile is interesting, but requires figuring out a good way to do that math quickly (move the ball around, recalculate a bunch of equations). I am definitely looking into it.
I'm messing around with something like this.
Love these. On the list. Second one seems easier for now.
We're soft launching a new FanGraphs Lab tool, "Paired Pitches." If you're enough of a baseball degen to follow me on social media, you're our target audience. I'd love to hear what you think:

Because autocomplete turned "C" into "CF". Fixed! My bad
I'm a big fan of this one: I used our playoff odds methodology to figure out which teams have the biggest holes to upgrade, and which teams will get the most bang for their buck given their particular situation, i.e. how much a marginal improvement increases their playoff odds
It does! But one weirdo throws an even flatter pitch by being weird
@skykalkman.bsky.social and @harrypav.bsky.social got it; Tyler Rogers's slider. Helps to throw from the ground and aim upwards. What a fun pitcher.
It's super miserable! I read that a few times and was like sigh, okay, fine
