late but chiming in on #1 -- my fave college class on fin de siècle Vienna & Prague included readings on their cafes, chocolate and coffee. I loved it! Still have the articles boxed up with college mementos somewhere, wish I remembered the titles.

Agreed. In theory I like the choice of using a native plant, but in practice, it's not identifiable and it's not iconic the way Mt Hood is, for example. A hibiscus for Hawaii is iconic; mahonia aquifolium for Oregon is not.

If there is a state with greater scenic beauty than Oregon, I haven’t seen it. Mountains, high desert, Pacific, Hood, Columbia, Portland — it’s just spectacular. I don’t want to spoil anything for residents, but it’s a truly underrated state. I’m lucky to have married into it.

I once got caught in a nighttime storm in Edinburgh that was exhilarating. Felt like ancient weather gods converging on the city.

It's never made sense to me why the absolute plainest Oregon plate is the most expensive.
And to emphasize how boring it is, it's more or less the standard California plate from the 70s-80s, with a darker blue background.

Exactly!

I legitimately thought the adlib reference to Mark earlier was hinting at Mark Watney, but found out later that no, it was Ryan's friend
