Largest study of its kind shows AI assistants misrepresent news content 45% of the time – regardless of language or territory An intensive international study was coordinated by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and led by the BBC

When I asked ChatGPT to summarize this, it referenced other reports of the release rather than the BBC. www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/...

Only 23% of government workers believe they “can report a suspected violation of a law, rule, or regulation without experiencing retaliation.”
That's way down form the share the prior year (72%) who said they could report suspected illegal activity without fear

Donald Trump canceled Direct File after giant tax prep companies spent millions lobbying.

Why? Because Direct File let you file your taxes for free.

So today, I’m introducing a bill to make Direct File the law of the land. And 160 members of Congress are joining me.

AI Doesn’t Reduce Work—It Intensifies It One of the promises of AI is that it can reduce workloads so employees can focus more on higher-value and more engaging tasks. But according to new research, AI tools don’t reduce work, they consisten...

Whatever the productivity gains promised by LLMs, they result in heavier workloads—and that leads to workers experiencing “cognitive fatigue, burnout, and weakened decision-making.”

A yellow bird singing the words "despair is a tool of your enemies" -audre lorde

Good night, everyone. It feels like our so-called "leaders" have all but abandoned us, but we still have each other. I didn't know what else to do, so I made a little painting. Stay safe out there 💛

Trump admin launches US Tech Force to recruit temporary workers after shedding thousands this year Some of the recruits to government service will be on leaves of absence from private sector companies while working for government — a setup that raises ethical questions about conflicts of interest.

We had this, it was called 18F and you gutted it in the name of cost savings and being "anti-woke". www.nextgov.com/people/2025/...

Couldn’t be more proud of this team! I had the privilege of working with them as they took the reigns of the project — the people at the Tax Court really embraced their ownership and I have no doubts it will continue to repay the court for decades to come. 🥰

18F files legal challenge A statement about 18F’s appeal filed with the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board.

We have some news to share with you. 🥄

Today we took legal action to challenge our termination, filing an appeal with the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board. We did this because we believe the elimination of 18F violated safeguards that exist to protect a nonpartisan civil service.

What DOGE gets wrong about tech and government Lessons learned by civic tech, forgotten by DOGE

New, from me:
The DOGE project was sold as tech disruptors who would revolutionize government. To try to understand why DOGE has failed, I point to lessons that other technologists who worked in government learned, but DOGE ignored. 🧵

Learning From the Legacy of 18F Although the government has terminated 18F—the team that modernized government tech—its legacy offers lessons for future digital services.

18F was a US government group helping government departments improve their use of technology which got recently wood-chipped. Here's a good overview of their work plus lessons learned: which apply to any large organization.

I helped build a government AI system. DOGE fired me, rolled the AI out to the whole agency, and implied the AI can do my job and the jobs of the others they've fired.

It can't. But, what DOGE accidentally revealed about themselves in the process is fascinating. 🧵

DOGE Is Putting Major Government Efficiency Projects at Risk In its apparent quest to cut government spending and improve efficiency, DOGE has fired entire tech teams devoted to those very things.

Here's what we lose when teams like USDS and 18F are suddenly deleted.
