COMMENT: Can we just stick to baseball in this space? I'm paying for scouting reports and entertainment, not politics. Craig Goldstein: No.

A color portrait of American comedian Gary Shandling. In his most famous television work—“It’s The Gary Shandling Show” and “The Larry Sanders Show”—Shandling played exaggerated, neurotic versions of himself. The shows often broke the fourth wall and engaged in metacommentary about their own status as cultural objects. Yìchén has bootleg DVDs of both series, even though it could get him fired, or worse. As a fictional character whose job it is in the Eleventh Bureau to monitor American culture, Yìchén simply cannot resist Shandling’s postmodern self-reflexive sensibilities.
