The early v. late to airport discussion entirely hinges on two factors:
1) if you're on an expense account
2) if you have access to a good lounge
If paying for yourself and lounge, big early.
If expensing and lounge, early.
If expense and no lounge, late.
If no expense and no lounge, don't fly.
Eat like 6-9 of the centurion lounge cookies; consider throwing up
It's a vibe
My hottest, most scorching airport take is:
arrive as early as you want, no one can task you when you’re there. Responsibility doesn’t exist.
Oh, there’s an ask from work? WiFi is down. You’re boarding. You’re disembarking.
Airport is suspended animation. There are no rules, you survive / enjoy.
No time / calories for cocktails man, toss down the phatty tip and then pour it on the rocks
To be fair, this is exactly what I would say if I was a stealth investor with a large amount of deployable capital.
I have a very tenuous pathway to do an income enhancing masters and then pivot to the financial destruction of the history PhD without having to redo the GRE.....
Good thing the scores don't expire after five years.....
^ this guy studied for the GRE
Poaster brain corrupts, absolute poaster brain corrupts absolutely.
My "I am disregarding all politics" opinion is we need to give air defense to the Air Force and CAS to the Army.
My understanding is that the venn diagram of "situations where you want that standoff range" // "situations where you want a 500 lb bomb" // and "situations where you want to give up a station for said bomb" are quite small.
But I'm all for more weapons kits so whateva - Navy lights money on fire
But also, this is a case where I'm like dude just get some bigger better OWA drones / TB-2 type stuff and give it to the Army.
I would be curious what percent of CAS environments actually wanted what class of ordnance - i.e. how often do you really need a GBU-31?
I'm not going very far in the organization, clearly
Is the F-35 a garbage CAS platform? Yes.
But SCU Vipers are actually pretty good at it.
And if your platform can't survive to do CAS then you take what you can get!
Yeah "brrrrr" is cool and all until you realize the platform is not survivable in much of the use cases people want CAS for.
It's not very sexy, but F-35s stealthily ripping off GBU-39s from dozens of miles away to hit the building can still be CAS!
The USAF would be far better off taking two Air Guard F-16 / F-35 squadrons (one each) and saying "your only mission is CAS/CSAR."
So much of A-10 fandom is due to the fact that its pilots are really good at their small number of missions.
I was reliably told by people who know nothing that fighter jets are outdated in the age of drones, yet here we see the people doing the fighting using a jet to destroy drone capabilities?
Yes correct which is why they ordered it to stop and when it didn't used limited force to disable it and take it into custody instead of sinking it
A simple way to expand toward transit/biking trips in your city: Offer new arrivals a welcome package including a transit pass and free bikeshare trips.
These are the moments when people form new travel habits, so it's a great time for nudges!
The US strategy doesn’t necessarily fail because those Shahed factories take a bunch of GBU-31s in the face every day. It’s a totally different set of capabilities.
A picture of a rather dilapidated copy of "The picture of Dorian Gray" There is visible water damage to the cover and the plastic cover is yellowing. Obviously, not evident from the picture but there is a truly foul musty smell emanating from it!
Last week, a gentleman returned this rather dilapidated copy of this famous book to us after 50 years. He had found it in his attic!
Presumably this means there is a pristine copy somewhere in our libraries....
Everybody would rather fight with expensive weapons.
The Ukrainians would much rather have B-21s raining hate on the Russians than OWA drones.
“Reverse emails,” Jared Kushner corruption edition
He also holds no Senate-confirmed Cabinet or senior government position & employing family as White House advisers violates every norm ever, but this, too, has been erased from the headlines. After years of HUNTER BIDEN, it’s shameful.
Somewhere Bismarck is looking down in confusion as Germany projects power by sending 4,000 pensioners, 12 buffet stations and a TUI loyalty program through the Strait of Hormuz
Hell yeah brother gotta get the AI snake oil pitch in there! The future for Ukraine was in part microphones and planes with rifles but yeah, it’s all about crafting the narrative for investors I guess?
In an ideal scenario, a stealth bomber blows the drones up in their storage facility. Come on NYT.
