Wikipedia's "featured article" today really captures the mood, huh?

Ankylosaurus. Armoured tank with a club tail. Badass.

What's your favourite dinosaur?

I keep saying all these AI guys are just like Elizabeth Holmes, but stories like this make it LITERALLY true. They are killing people with fake medicine. This is murder.

I can't think of any other property that regularly does even half those numbers yet leaves practically no trace on the shared psyche. It's bizarre.

And then it leaves cinemas and it's back to silence. No one talks about Avatar between releases, certainly not to the extent of any other SF or Fantasy franchise. Then the next one comes along and it's the biggest property on Earth again, at least in financial terms.

Seeing that #AvatarFireAndAsh has grossed over a billion dollars globally is a reminder of how WEIRD that franchise is. It has ZERO game - there's practically no buzz, or memes, or discussion, or social traction, or even nerd rage bait takes - but every time a new one drops, BAM, $1bn+ box office.

All of which is their problem. Say no.

The Analogue3D Is a Retro Gamer’s Dream This is the best way to play classic N64 games in 2025.

@mattkamen.bsky.social says that the 3D is the best way to play N64 games in 2025. Smart money says it'll be the best way in 2026, too.

Hugely impressed with the Analogue3D from @analogue.bsky.social - a reimagined N64 that outdoes the original console. My review over @wired.com:

Love that #PokemonZA recognises and represents its audience of ageing millennials

Xbox's collab with Asus results in two impressive, if not groundbreaking, handhelds - but my biggest concern is that the ROG XBOX Ally and Ally X will tempt people who think they're getting Microsoft's answer to the Switch, when these are anything but.

By me, over @wired.com:

My deep dive retrospective on @play.date at three years old, over @wired.com - from getting started to the current development scene of this quirky handheld!

Thanks to developers @synapticsugar.games, @raphcal.bsky.social, and @loudo.lugludum.com for their contributions!

If AI hype were real, companies would allow you to disable it. Meta AI in WhatsApp, Google Search's AI Overviews, all of the little ways AI has been insidiously foisted on us, could be turned off if they didn't need to manufacture engagement to look like the billions invested weren't a total waste.

Reform UK Nottinghamshire council leader bans local newspaper's reporters The Nottingham Post describes the ban as

And they do this without oversight, behind closed doors. They ban the press, the action of dictators, authoritarians, and fascists the world over.

They want you angry, uneducated, ill-informed.

Reform does not care about you.

I really need people to understand that if you vote for Reform, this is what you get: YOUR services slashed, YOUR communities harmed, YOUR opportunities killed off. This is at council level too - imagine how bad this would be if they were the national government?

Deal to get ChatGPT Plus for whole of UK discussed by Open AI boss and minister Exclusive: Deal that could have cost £2bn was floated at meeting between technology secretary Peter Kyle and Sam Altman

"Oh, we have £2bn spare!"

"Fantastic! Can we address homelessness, cost of living, environment, crime?"

"No, silly! The best use is-"

"Don't say it…"

"Buying everyone PREMIUM auto complete!"

"…"

"That gets things wrong! Frequently! And wastes water & energy every time you use it!"

Now THAT was a #Superman movie. Embraces the source material, trusts the audience (no pointless redux of the best-known origin story on Earth!), and remembers that superheroes can be hopeful without being cloying. Also: #KRYPTO 🐶 @jamesgunn.bsky.social & team smashed it.

Excuse me...! I gave THE reading at your wedding! 😘

I do miss the UBB model of online communities though. Reddit doesn't hit right, and wider social media is... well, look at it. 😬

Incredible mechanics, phenomenal writing, wonderful characters with spectacular performances, and it's all UNSPEAKABLY beautiful. Do not sleep on #ClairObscur!
