The extent to which guys just beat the shit out of each other in the playoffs is really something #hockey #imlearning
A loud cheer now that five Penguins are in the box lol
Yo! this is great. Rich was doing my favorite Philly sports newsletter before PHLY made the dumb decision to get rid of it.
Go subscribe to Rich's new venture and support independent journalism. Go Birds.
If this keeps happening he's going to need an agent
Our long national nightmare is over.
At long last, @richhofmann.bsky.social's newsy is BACK.

Hello.
The newsletter is back! It's now called The Broad Street Bulletin.
The first post, where you can read all about it, is here: www.broadstbulletin.com/p/welcome-to...
Zegras has found a good fit in Philadelphia.
Part of this is because he's now reunited with his close friend and former Ducks teammate, Jamie Drysdale.
Eakins calls them "The Odd Couple" and "Frick and Frack."
He used two coffee makers as an analogy: www.inquirer.com/flyers/trevo...
“Life has become easier.”
Matvei Michkov is 5,100 miles from Perm, Russia.
But this year, Philly is starting to feel a little more like home: www.inquirer.com/flyers/matve...
Most of the time, Chambersburg, Pa. is relatively quiet.
Except for when the Eagles play the Steelers. Or the Phillies play the Pirates.
Or the Flyers play the Penguins.
The town is almost exactly in between Pittsburgh and Philly.

Together, Chambersburg’s citizens celebrate their community. That is, until the Eagles play the Steelers. Or the Phillies play the Pirates. Or the Flyers play the Penguins.
The rivalries run deep, and the town is already abuzz for the upcoming playoff series.
Chambersburg's mayor, Kenneth Hock, who goes by "Mayor Hockey," hopes they'll remain civil.
"Everybody wears their jerseys, shows up to the local bar and slugs it out" www.inquirer.com/flyers/flyer...

The 21-year-old's adjustment to North American culture, the English language, and the NHL is ongoing, but the Flyers winger is feeling more comfortable on and off the ice.
When Matvei Michkov arrived in Philly in 2024, simple things became hard.
Like finding the gas station. Or buying groceries. Or ordering room service.
But this year is better. His family is more settled. His English has improved.
“Life has become easier,” he said: www.inquirer.com/flyers/matve...
“One of the most misunderstood people in the NHL,” former coach Dallas Eakins said of Zegras. "He is so competitive. He wants to be the very best."
The Women's National Basketball Players Association made history last month, and athletes in the room say it wouldn't have happened without Deb Willig.
“For the last year, [my order] was steak, pasta, Sprite."
"Lululemon, his favorite place."
“At the beginning, I was not really comfortable because everybody would smile. I was not used to it.”
How Matvei Michkov has adjusted to life in a new country: www.inquirer.com/flyers/matve...
Very relatable tbh!
Thank you!!
Michkov says this year has been easier.
His family feels more settled. His English has improved.
He's developing a better rapport with his teammates and doesn't need a translator as often.
The simple things are simple again, even 5,100 miles from home: www.inquirer.com/flyers/matve...
Noah Cates noticed Michkov looked overwhelmed when people around him spoke too fast.
So, he made a concerted effort to slow it down when they were going over shifts.
"He thinks about the game differently," Cates said. "It's very unique but it's special." www.inquirer.com/flyers/matve...
Despite Michkov's strong rookie season, he still struggled with the language barrier.
When the team was on the road, he'd pick up the hotel phone and order the only meal he knew in English:
“Steak, pasta and Sprite.”
(He's since started choosing other options) www.inquirer.com/flyers/matve...
This grew to include some surprising spots.
One day, Michkov asked his coach where he bought his activewear.
"Lululemon," he responded.
They decided to take a trip.
Michkov's eyes lit up when he walked into the store.
"Lululemon," he said. "His favorite place." www.inquirer.com/flyers/matve...
Some wanted to change Trevor Zegras. The Flyers let him be himself.
It's paying off — just in time for the playoffs.
“It looks like he’s got his swagger back," said his former coach, Dallas Eakins. "And it’s important for him to play with swagger.” www.inquirer.com/flyers/trevo...
