The left has to pivot ASAP from parroting "the stochastic parrots are totally useless" and embarrassingly made up fake numbers about water and heat, and instead recognize the already-actually-existing apocalyptic power that's rapidly being concentrated right now in the hands of a few.

Yeah. The grunt work is the juice. That’s where you start getting good and if you’re lucky you only do that part for like 5 years until you get another job doing slightly different grunt work but similar learning curve

Interesting to see this 1947 test screen with Marlon Brando for the film "Rebel Without a Cause." Brando, of course, would later epitomize mid-century American masculinity. He was 23-years-old here.

i think games shouldn't give points or rewards for good play. for the best interactive experiences, it isn't necessary: we participate in activities because we choose to. i want to "kill" the existing cultural expectation that it is expected or even acceptable that games will tell us what to desire.

This. It’s all moving so fast. As I’ve never been an Unreal main, I literally wasn’t aware of Verse until maybe a month ago. And my first thought was, “Damn, this is pretty cool. I’d love to fuck around with this.”

But of course my second thought was to sigh, “…but those are The Old Ways”

Helllllo I could use your help! We're trying to create a new steam tag, and that requires a bunch of people tagging our (and games like it) with the same tag.

If you could pop over to our store and put in 'Fake OS', that'd be super appreciated! pls share =]

Who Cares About the Lore? The creation and imperfect preservation of The Elder Scrolls' intentional incoherence.

For @remapradio.bsky.social, I wrote about the worldbuilding business, and the apparently irreconcilable lore of Bethesda's ELDER SCROLLS games. This is about people who love lore, people who make it, people who break it, and those who do all three.

An array of 5x5 sprites on a checkerboard grid. Each sprite is 20x20 pixels. The whole thing is framed by simple vines. Each sprite is a solid color. The top row is people, an angel, and a deer. The middle 3 rows are weird monsters inspired by marginalia. The bottom row is knights.

I'm once again working on sprites for some sort of Arthurian roguelike. Taking a lot of inspiration from marginalia.

A GDC-relevant PSA:

Kiki’s Delivery Service is screening in 4K on the IMAX screen in Metreon next door on Thursday and Friday, and that TMNT II is also playing there on Friday. Go forth.

“We put them in our agreement” means there are no restrictions in the underlying models, unlike Anthropic, and you’re relying on *checks notes* the Trump administration to hold to this. So. Yeah.

Context— I'm doing a li'l research project that I can't talk about just yet, and I could really use input from working Narrative Designers, Writers, Systems Designers, Creative Leads, and Producers who work with all of the above. It will be well worth a 30m meeting if this sounds like you!

Who's going (perhaps against their better judgement) to #GDC this year? Hit me up, old pals and colleagues! Also, if you know anyone working on narrative-driven projects— especially ambitious/experimental ones— let's connect!

The discourse of the hour is emphasizing that LLMs are overhyped bullshit (kinda true), but I am increasingly concerned that the push to have everyone on the same page about that is impairing the ability to preemptively strategize around the futures in which capabilities massively expand.
