I just tested a very early-stage prototype of a new feature we’re exploring for @chargemap.com — and I’m genuinely excited about its potential!

It’s an idea we’ve had in mind for years, something quite unique, and it’s perfectly aligned with the evolving needs of EV drivers.

That said, the rest of the day was incredible—blue skies, perfect snow, and some amazing runs on my snowboard! And that’s what I choose to remember.

This is exactly the kind of friction we need to eliminate from the EV charging experience. As long as things like this happen, we’ll keep hearing skeptics say EVs are too complicated. It’s on the whole ecosystem—charger manufacturers, automakers, charging network operators—to make this seamless.

So, I restarted a charging session, stopped it from the car, immediately pressed the little button… and voilà, it worked.

Back to the hotel reception, which was packed with guests checking out. After waiting, a receptionist accompanied me to the parking lot and shared a tip for this particular charging station: press a tiny button in the middle of the charger. Sometimes, it releases the cable.

Not this time.

Ever heard the joke about the charging cable that got stuck?

Well, yesterday, it cost me 45 minutes of snowboarding on a perfect, sunny day.

I started a charging session at my hotel using a web link, stopped it from the car, but when I tried to unplug the cable—nothing. Stuck.

Just tried Apple Intelligence on my iPhone for the first time… and honestly, it’s pretty disappointing. Without linking a ChatGPT account, it feels almost useless.

Apple will have to do much better if they want to convince anyone!

Today, EVs are everywhere, and that’s a great thing. But there’s still something special about my first real long-range electric car—the one that took me on so many unforgettable adventures.

Maybe it’s the sleek design, the effortless acceleration, or the memories of those first long road trips when EV charging was still an adventure. Back then, every journey felt like exploring uncharted territory.

Some cars leave a lasting mark.

I have no regrets about switching to the Tesla Model Y in 2022—it’s more practical, more efficient for my needs—but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss my old Model S from time to time.

Regardless, there is immense value in saying no to “feature temptation” and removing features to keep your tech as lightweight as possible. This isn’t always easy to make clear to non-technical people.

That said, in some cases, a well-built monolith can actually help you move faster—at least in the beginning. It all depends on the project's constraints.

The same principle applies to development. You should always keep things as lightweight as possible. Microservices are a great way to achieve this at the platform level, even if there are trade-offs.

To go fast, you either need to be light and require little energy, or you need a lot of energy if you’re heavy.
