Not all heroes wear capes ! @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social @thetimes.com
In case you are wondering what his name means, 'Zohran' signifies light, 'Kwame' connects to Ghanaian heritage and resistance, and 'Mamdani' denotes a legacy of scholars.
Zohran delivered his campaign speech in three other languages, including Hindi/Urdu, Spanish and Arabic. West loves to talk about inclusion, diversity and equality, but delivers the bare minimum.

The future lies in #pluriversality. Either you resist it or become part of it. We saw the toppling of a hegemonic dynasty this week.
Language constructs our reality and existence; it is not something we can part ways with. #Design (ing) the #politics, politics of #typography.
Honored to be prominently discussed in this #esolang podcast which raises some of the most critical questions in the space and covers a LOT of material in its nearly two hours
Also, another controversial language usage that's keeping me trapped is, if a person of colour is defined as "/ˌpəːsn əv ˈkʌlə/ = a person who is not white." Does it imply that "a person who is white" can be labelled as "a person of no colour" ?!
Seriously, who should I take this forward to ?
🧵9/ Orwell would see white nationalism in Britain as a classic case of "power-hunger tempered by self-deception," using the immigrant as a scapegoat to invent an imaginary struggle and avoid confronting real problems within their own society.

🧵8/ The most widely celebrated national holiday around the world is Independence Day from Britain. The reason the country is struggling is that there are simply no places left to conquer and colonise, divide and rule.
What would Orwell think? In his essay "Notes on Nationalism,
🧵7/ The red cross on a white field became the Flag of England in 1190, the Saint George's flag, whose mother Saint Polychronia is believed to have come from Palestine and whose father Saint Gerontios is believed to be of Syrian Cappadocian origin. Stop the boats ??
🧵6/ and not a single word of love should tell you everything about the fallen Empire of Britain. Watch the Oxford Union debate by Dr Shashi Tharoor MP - Britain Does Owe Reparations.
🧵5/ FYI, Sanskrit has ninety-six words for love; ancient Persian has eighty, Greek three, and English only one. Despite that, the word "Loot" meaning, to steal goods, to rob (from Hindi) made it into the dictionary as well as into a habit;
🧵4/ As in any other colony, the British were the Narcos for most of the 19th and 20th centuries. Read Smoke and Ashes: Opium's Hidden Histories (2023) non-fiction book by Amitav Ghosh for more context !!
🧵3/ It is spread over an area of 45 acres and is situated on the high banks of the river Ganga at Ghazipur.
Back then, naturally extracted Opium was a crucial commodity in the pharmaceutical industry, mostly for cough syrup and war medics like morphine and codeine.
🧵2/ His father, Richard Walmsley Blair joined the Indian Civil Service in 1875 as an "Agent" in the Opium Department.
Govt. Opium & Alkaloid Works, where he worked, is the largest and oldest opium "Factory" in the world.
🧵1/ I am sick to my stomach...
What would Orwell think?
A little history lesson they don't teach in British schools.
Geroge Orwell (Eric Arthur Blair) was born in a small city in India—Motihari in modern-day Uttar Pradesh, in 1903.
