Do everything you can, but don't fight a fight that puts the student in a worse situation, or that jeopardizes your ability to keep being their ally, even if it's behind the scenes. Maybe there is a better answer, I don't know. This sucks, I'm sorry. But those are my initial thoughts....

Or maybe there's a nickname you both agree on. Either way the conversation would show your support. But I would try to continue using their true name, until there were consequences. And then evaluate to what extent I can weather those consequences, and what the consequences might be to the student.

Thinking about what I would do in this situation. If I felt I could, my first impulse is to say fuck it, respect is not negotiable, call the student by their name until there are consequences. If that seems impossible, I'd discuss the situation openly with them and see what they wanted me to do.

Funny to see my furry drawings in a magazine next to Maggie Nelson, Logan February, Esther Kinsky, and so many more big names lol. I’m just a humble dog…

I know a guy who used to have an Ampex quad machine, but he is a voluntary amputee and thus had only 3 paws. He thought of it less as losing his hand, and more like gaining a hook. I met him through an ad in a 1966 issue of Popular Electronics, where he was seeking quad owners to be video penpals.

I was thinking about replacing the light seals on a camera yesterday, and then imagined a "light seal" as a floating or glowing seal. And then today, here is this picture! Synchronicity! The Light Seal!

I like D for question #2. I'm picturing a badger with a little tie and briefcase. I'm not sure if the badger is just injured, or is a ghost, but either way we're gonna make it.

At the end of the day, it's fanfic. It's not a compliment, but it's a deep engagement with your work, and it struck a nerve, and it's a world of uncomfortable ideas they feel the need to write their way though. You got 'em.

She needed the black nitrile ones...

(Invented by Neil Tillotson, who invented the modern latex balloon (which was originally cat-shaped), and who cast the first ballot in every presidential election for 40 years, and who has a glove-shaped tower built in his memory. Ohhh, the history of desire!)

I ran out of time to show two cartoons during Feel Weird(er) at FC. One was the inflation classic "King Size Canary." The other was "Frederick," about the power of art in dark times. It's not kinky, but it's good medicine. (If you think it's too simplistic, relax and be less cynical.) First 7:00

Stuck in my head for months: this old meme, but the lyrics are "Fox, I'm a Pufferfox, and I puff puff puff"

True story.

The thing in that book that stuck with me was the way she uses the word "scalloped" - I had a dissociative episode in 2017 and it really captured that feeling of emptiness and loss.

I've read that book. No one knows who the author is, so it could be fictional, but the descriptions feel pretty legitimate. Nothing quite like this, though. The operators are really just anyone who she perceives to be pulling the strings.

It's been a while since I looked through it. A few fun collections of shorts and oddities, but mostly 70s things like Emmanuelle, Candy Stripers, Au Pair Girls, etc.
