Are EHCPs really driving the SEND crisis? Education, health and care plans have been blamed for an unsustainable rise in special educational needs in schools, but would scrapping or limiting these plans fix the problem?

Looking back at our most-read story this year: @mmulholland.bsky.social explores whether education, health and care plans are really to blame for the unsustainable rise of SEND in schools

I've been providing reflective supervision to school leaders for over a year now.

Neither counselling nor therapy, case-based supervision has given them a space to share, reflect on, and rethink how they tackle the weighty challenges they face.

It helps. Each of them has renewed for a second year.

@samcrome.bsky.social it was fantastic to have you join us. A really thought provoking session. Definately made me reflect on current practices and how we can develop them.

Truly great lecture. Having worked with @APPGMenBoys on boys achievement along with some great school leaders, it’s good to get this conversation some traction. Just let’s make sure this is not a binary dialogue - boys and girls, men and women both need security, opportunity, confidence and support.

The Richard Dimbleby Lecture - Sir Gareth Southgate Former England football manager Sir Gareth Southgate reflects on his personal journey as a leader and the importance of belief and resilience.

I don't generally go nuts for learning from leaders in other domains, but I would strongly recommend Gareth Southgate's Dimbleby Lecture. I found what he said about creating the right culture spot on and quite moving. He brings together when so many are keen to divide. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...

Hi Tom. It was great to hear you reference satellite provisions as part of your thinking. We host a satellite provision and it’s the first time I have heard this be raised as part of the solution!

Sir Martyn Oliver references the recommendation in ASCL's Blueprint for a Fairer Education System for a balanced scorecard - but disagrees with our suggestion that schools & colleges should be evaluated as simply having met or not met standards in different aspects of education. #ASCL2025

What school report cards should look like and how they should be introduced ASCL chief Pepe Di’Iasio on why Ofsted shouldn't develop the new standards, and why he would back a delay in introducing them if needed

The Ofsted report card timeline will leave "little time for schools" to prepare for changes - @ascl-uk.bsky.social would be ready to see the new approach "introduced later" than Sep 2025.

The least enjoyable part of school leadership. Any hint of snow and I wake up every two hours to see if it hassnowed then after days of will it snow or not I end up so knackered I don’t wake up the night it actually does snow!! Let the fun begin 😂

As a reminder, this is how we at @ascl-uk.bsky.social would like to see report cards introduced:

- based on a clear set of standards, set out in legislation
- schools evaluated on whether or not they meet those standards
- schools which don’t supported to do so

Agreed. Did also worry about the use of the term ‘deep dives’ in the NHS.

What @stulock.bsky.social says about sorting systems out will increase teaching in the classroom is so true!

Often, teachers get bogged down in the processes and not on what is being taught.
