Can we just cancel contracts with this regressive, fascist company? Certainly practicing these ideas violate requirements for government contracts, right?

Instead of focusing on gun violence, politicians want to destroy digital privacy and force everyone to verify their identity online so we can pretend little kids won't see naughty pictures online. They need to be told to refocus on what is the real, urgent threat.
#ParentsDecideAct #HR8250
Not a dime of taxpayer money or govt contracts should go to Palantir.
It affects non-parents as well. If I say I'm over 18, I'm sure it will want to verify anyways.
the bill is 'H.R.8250'
while usually i'd take a "wait and see" approach to a bill that has only been introduced, the us govt is moving FAST wrt age verification, so please, contact your representatives (particularly the house) and advocate against AV on device laws

I wonder how much it's changed in the 3 years since that post. I assumed they gave up on the digital storefront when they started selling the Polymega Collection discs.
Same. I pre-ordered in September 2018, received it in November 2021. A trade in/upgrade option with the ability to transfer my SSD would be fantastic.
True, and I don't want to make slippery slope arguments, but I also don't trust them to say they're not normalizing a "less invasive" method so they can add new requirements later after enough 13 year olds claim to be 50. Once Persona and IDs get involved, it's game over for data privacy.
Part of my issue is the age bracket being shared with any app, regardless of a need for that data.
It's easy to imagine an app using that, plus device fingerprinting paired with purchased data to build additional profiles. If a minor's age bracket changes, there's an indication of the birthdate.
Well, Hue used to just work. They decided they needed everyone to create an account so they can protect the data they collect when forcing us to create accounts, but that's a separate rant.
A lot of smart TVs use Android, which requires an account. My Roku requires an account.
Plus, it's impractical. Are streaming boxes going to have to comply with this? Are people expected to change accounts at the device level just to watch a show instead of selecting a profile in an app? Why would my Home Assistant need my age? Or a Hue hub? Parental controls already exist.
"CA age gating law doesn’t track anyone. There’s no identifying info. It doesn’t even store or report the exact age or birthdate. Only the age bracket."
For now. It's still more data than I want my operating system to know.
I can't say any of this surprises me. I'm just glad they're being called out. Then again, I doubt there will be any real resolution since the dipshits in California already passed a law that will encourage and require additional tracking with their age gating bullshit.
NEW: An independent privacy audit of Microsoft, Meta, and Google web traffic in California found that the companies may be violating state regulations and racking up billions in fines.
“In many ways fines have come to replace taxes."
Something tells me it's not the campaigns that people are upset about.
I don't NEED to prove my identity to walk down the street. I shouldn't be forced to let Persona leak my ID in whichever breach inevitably happens next, just for the privilege of using the devices I own.
Hard pass on both Pritzker and Newsom in 2028. These laws are written by the technologically illiterate or by people who are eager to usher in a China-level surveillance state in the US. This won't help children, but it will harm everyone.
These proposed laws are gifts to Meta. They will do nothing to protect anyone and will put EVERYONE'S data at risk. Devices already have parental controls. This will disrupt protected speech, curtail civil liberties, force tracking of minors, and ruin data privacy for everyone. This is surveillance.
Can't we just tap the oil reserves in his face? Look at that greasy mug.
Reminds me of the saying "Newt Gingrich is a stupid man's idea of what a smart man sounds like."
I can't wait to see him push out technology that's as immature as he is and watch it just destroy all his companies.
I just finished this. It's well worth the $20.
So it's not that Mullin is an unqualified idiot, but that you want some vague, tepid form of reining ICE in? I would think it's both policy AND personnel, but I guess that's what we get with such milquetoast "leadership".
Oooohhh. Jeffries really got Trump with that zinger at the end. I can sleep better at night knowing he's on the case.
@jamestalarico.bsky.social you need to quit buying/selling people's private information like you're somehow entitled to invade people's privacy when they never signed up for ANY contact. I don't care who you are or what your cause is, you don't have the right to violate privacy like that.
The real reason CBS didn't let Colbert air his interview with James Talarico is that the Ellisons are still trying to buy Warner Bros.
David Ellison runs Paramount, which owns CBS.
He's using CBS to show what loyal oligarchs they are as they seek FCC approval for a WBD deal.

Jeff Bezos’ Washington Post is now saying Trump is right to roll back climate science and pollution protections at the EPA.
One more reason I love this guy and his feed.
