Talk and Log™*, same as it ever was.
I suppose it will end when the old growth and marbled murrelets are equally extinct ⏱️👀🤷♀️
*BC’s #1 forest policy
Empty homes is a big issue in micro-remote coastal munis too. I recently heard that up to 40% of homes in Zeballos are empty (perhaps seasonally used) meanwhile there are community members experiencing homelessness/under-housed.
Thanks for sharing, Steve. This has been discussed amongst coastal EA directors; opting in seems like it would be less politically risky from a provincial perspective.
Atrocious. The only good thing is the term ‘slopaganda’
💯 agree with CSRD directors who think it’s ridiculous that mattress recycling was not included in the 2026 additions to the extended producer responsibility portfolio.
Mattress business must have powerful lobbying connections 🤷♀️
BC News headlines April:

- Fires have started

New oil pipeline? 🙃

The homeowner waiting till 24 hours before deadline to renew (on a weekend) seems like part of the issue here. Losing the bookings was super unfortunate — hopefully other homeowner/STR operators & the Province can learn from this.
No conflict here 🙃 “The changes reduce the mine's upfront security deposit and remove sections on wastewater treatment—an area the individuals worked on as consultants”
"There remains another path. You can reject the course of colonial unilateral action and choose to uphold human rights and the honour of the Crown, and insist that the Province meet its legal obligations" www.ubcic.bc.ca/open_letter_...
It is interesting that townhouse complexes and trailer parks regularly post 15km/hr speed limits, but municipalities seem to think 50km/hr for cul-de-sacs and other residential streets is fine
“the records reviewed for this investigation suggest the watchdog — which is largely funded by the oil and gas industry — is overlooking infractions that could cause damage to ecosystems or threats to public health and safety.”
This revolving door is so common in BC, I see it in the oil and gas sector all the time.
All the government people say it's fine, so I guess it's okay.

Sometimes a crossing is just a crossing.
Is Pierre Poilievre’s next immediate political opponent a head of lettuce? 🥬
Or a ferry without a cable?! 😜
I would love to see who you’re hearing 😊
We opted in at the beginning; the STR regs have been in place since last May and things have been fine. RD staff have confirmed for operators when asked that no business number is needed.
Operators *do* need to register/pay the provincial fee every year. The govt wants their cut 😜
Professor Tim Takaro pointed out that LNG Canada has been flaring gas well above its authorized levels — up to 15x more gas than expected — and that the company knew about those excess flares for four months before notifying the regulator.

Yup they have, but we didn’t feel the need for it. Additional bureaucracy and another ‘tax’ to proprietors for what benefit?
The license fee can only be high enough to cover costs of its administration, so we didn’t feel it was in the interests of operators or the RD.
Two electoral areas in the SRD opted in. We do not have a business license program. The provincial STR registration program accepts applications w/o a business licence #. And the province inspects for the primary residence requirement, no local bylaw compliance needed 👍 #working #happy
1/ Hours after Iran and the U.S. reached a ceasefire deal, Israel launched one of its most devastating attacks on Lebanon to date.
Over a hundred strikes in ten minutes - carnage in Beirut, where hundreds of thousands of displaced people are sheltering.

I hate having to do the "look, they're normal just like us" post, but sometimes you have to do that when American propaganda tries to convince everyone Iranians are "animals".
>Canadian company builds solar panels in Malawi
>is paid in Malawi's (volatile) currency
>invests those payments in local farmers growing chili peppers
>sells chili peppers to Nando's, in USD
>builds sustainable business model on Cheeky Nando's
This is my favourite news story of the year so far.
This is our childrens' only home. And some politicians say we can't afford to save it, even though clean energy is now cheaper than dirty fossil fuels. We can't afford that kind of politician. #climatecrisis #TaxTheSuperRich #bcpoli #cdnpoli
This is proof that sometimes you never know how good things can get, and even then, they can sometimes get even better. 13/10 for all (TT: matiastapia2409)
Timing is everything // this campaign has been ideally timed. 💯 appreciate this work, thank you!
This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.
