Transformation of former coal mines and plants are some of my favorite solar power plant projects.
By focusing on a previously mined and well reclaimed property, the project contributes to Wise County’s legacy as an energy producer. 🔌💡

Communities are pushing back on data centers—and they’re right. Utilities raised capital budgets 40% for AI capacity we can’t find chips for.
We could cut bills 10% with smarter grids, batteries, and flexible data centers.
Tech exists. Governors have to push folks to use it.
Political Will.
So much here!
Highlighting the role of Governors to let PUCS, in our case SCC, know that they have their back.
Our Governor @abigailspanberger.com, with a super smart transition team, made grid utilization a key legislative priority. This year we implement measurements, next we set targets.
We noticed 🤨.
A lot of Virginia legislative news today. Tonight I’ll point to one bill that will lower energy costs.
My bill with @katrinacallsen.com Callsen to increase small scale solar projects will ⬇️ utility bills and ⬆️ job creation.
The affordability agenda at work.

"Cheaper. Fossil fuels were already losing to electrotech on economics before the war. The war widens the gap. In power, solar plus storage now costs below $60 per megawatt hour (MWh) at a global level. The variable cost of LNG-fired power in Asia, at $20 per million British thermal units (MMBtu), exceeds $160 per MWh – nearly three times the cost of never needing fuel again. In transport, EVs compete with petrol cars on sticker price in most major markets, and undercut them by 60–80% per kilometre driven. For the internal combustion engine to compete with an EV in China, crude would have to fall below $15 a barrel."
Why should we continue to fight foreign fossil fuel wars? On a global scale, solar with storage is now $60/MWh. The cost of fossil gas in Asia exceeds $160 per MWh. Renewables are cheaper & cleaner. See Alt text for details from the report. 🧪🔌💡☀️💨💧🔋 Source: ember-energy.org/latest-insig...
Clean Energy Team wins! We celebrate with you, Arizona, as control of your utility’s policymaking now goes to those in favor of renewables.

Congratulations 👏

Economic instability is at an all-time high — so today we're launching a policy platform to tackle the 4 largest household bills Americans face: electricity, transportation, housing, and home insurance.

Lessons for Virginia on getting flexible interconnection to work, for utilities, developers, and environmental groups, so that more community solar can be added to the grid faster.
On average in the US, it's 62% cheaper to charge an EV compared to pumping gas.
The winning states:
🏆🏆 Washington: charging an EV is 77% cheaper than gas! 🎉
🏆 Idaho and Nevada: 75% cheaper

Data centers exposed the already broken utility model.
The fix is tying profit to performance instead.
Yes, she did, and the grassroots are not good with that.
The next tipping point in the energy transition is approaching.
Overall, solar has already been cheaper than fossil power for a while, but upfront costs used to be higher.
That's no longer the case. Solar is now competitive upfront AND has vastly lower operating costs (no fuel).

A new Hart Research poll shows ending data center tax handouts in Virginia has bipartisan support:
81% of Independents
76% of Democrats
51% of Republicans
Clean up dirty data centers.

'Strikingly, the impacts weren’t limited to a data center’s immediate surroundings; temperature increases affected areas up to 6.2 miles away'.
Combined cycle gas turbine power (often used for mid-merit and peaking plants), and offshore wind are both at ~$100/MWh for generation. Coal and grid scale batteries are at ~$80/MWh for generation or discharge. PVs and onshore wind are at ~$40/MWh generation.
We don't need to fight over fossil fuels. BloombergNEF reports grid-scale batteries are as cheap as coal per MWh. Offshore wind is comparable in price to combined cycle gas turbine power, & onshore wind & PVs (fixed & tracking) are both significantly cheaper than fossil fuels. 🧪🔌💡☀️💨💧🔋
Outstanding victory by my constituents and the American Battlefield Trust in the Virginia Court of Appeals in their fight against what would be the largest data center complex in the world: PW Digital Gateway.
Public notice laws are not 👏 fn 👏 optional. 👏

Great NO KINGS turnout, Virginia!!
Now, let's get our Redistricting Amendment passed!

(Cheaper, cleaner, faster) solar + storage legislation awaits the Governor's signature.
Couldn't be more delighted with the announcement today that Governor @abigailspanberger.com has chosen Josephus Allmond to be Virginia's guiding voice on energy policy in the new cabinet position, Chief Energy Officer.
At @selc.bsky.social and on the transition team, Allmond has been stellar 🤩.
Washington Post now covering a visited and frequently mentioned topic on @volts.wtf , hyperscalers paying for distributed capacity (i.e. upgrading homes to free up grid capacity).
