Want to make your images/videos more inclusive? Avoid Red-Blind LUTs! 🫷 While single-color red images are accessible, multi-color LUTs with red can be confusing for a small proportion of the population with Protanopia. I'll give a quick example from a paper I covered in journal club. 1/2

🚨Very happy that my PhD work is now out in @nature.com!

We discovered that evolution, by acting in the midbrain, shifted the threshold to escape in Peromyscus mice, to fine-tune defensive strategies in different environments

This was a truly collaborative effort! 🧵⬇️

“We suggest that zebrafish phototaxis is regulated via parallel processing streams, which could be a universal implementation to change strategies depending on developmental stage, context, or internal state, making behavior flexible and goal-oriented.”

Norepinephrine changes behavioral state through astroglial purinergic signaling Both neurons and glia communicate through diffusible neuromodulators; however, how neuron-glial interactions in such neuromodulatory networks influence circuit computation and behavior is unclear. Dur...

microscope image of a postnatal mouse brain showing the entry point of blood vessel into the brain - fibroblasts (yellow: S100a6) form a layer at the brain's edge (meninges) and surround the blood vessel. Astrocyte endfeet (magenta, GFAP) form a layer at the brain's edge, apposed to the fibroblasts. Image also shows macrophages (cyan; CD206) and cell nuclei (DAPI, blue)

I was imaging this weekend, took this image because it was beautiful to me, the blood vessels, fibroblasts, astrocytes, & macrophages as steadfast guardians at the brain's edges. Cheers to the 'guardians' of all that is important. ❤️

With everything that's going on, I needed this cool data 1 day before #flourescencefriday. It's my first time with #GCaMP imaging (green), and you can clearly see Aβ42 induced hyperexcitability at the same time that we also see BBB leakage (not shown)! #zebrafishrock
