The interior of their sleeping quarters. The mix of the new and old wood colors is striking. Definitely going make predators work to get in there.

That 4 week old ugly duckling stage. Flight feathers are starting to come in and the baby down is being replaced all over. I will post a new video since this a week old and their bellies are now fully feathered.

Starseeds: Nazis in space? — Philosophy for Life I’d never heard of starseeds before one of them stormed the Capitol building in DC on January 6 2021. In the days after, I was researching Jake Angeli, the ‘Qanon shaman’, and discovered he ran someth...

Dutch Hookbill Duck - The Livestock Conservancy Dutch Hookbill ducks are a unique and very old poultry breed thought to have originated in the Netherlands' Noord-Holland province between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

We are getting ducks! 12 Dutch Hookbills are moving out our friends’ farm for a breeding program. Here is a link if you are interested. Currently I am hyper fixated on this weird breed whose status is listed as critical.

As much as I hate the direction local politics are taking I adore the connections to other humans I’ve built over 60 years. Living in a college town is a lot like living in a train depot. Folks come and go but often return for visits. I am content with my life as the constant in many of theirs.

I think this is the only account I maintain that is related to any of my businesses. So I tend to say weird shit and share childhood memories.
Went to a birthday party for an 80 year old former neighbor. The bald dude is her son, the little boy who lived across the street.

I loved that strip when I was younger. I was about the same age as his twin daughters and loved it when the one cut her hair and started sword training. I need to track down the volumes and see if I remember it at all accurately.

Isn’t that supposed to be available to anyone working a full time job at minimum wage?

I remember visiting Butchart Gardens as a 6 year old. It was a peaceful trip those 54 years ago. I’m sure some of the trees are taller and thicker now, much like me.

I love you like the weird brother you are. And tell your kid to get her ass up to Moscow, we need to hire another full time employee.

Oh, our first cat lived to be 20 and we were devastated. Take care of yourselves and know that he will always be in your hearts, the pain will ease but the love will remain.

An unhappy grey tabby cat is wearing a collar that looks like an old fashioned life preserver. The collar is blue with little fish printed on it.

The quote I remember from my childhood was along the lines of, “I don't care what they do, so long as they don't do it in the street and frighten the horses."
My wife and I have never done anything in the street, on account of the horses.

Lesbians frighten horses!
I’ve been told that my entire life.

The second shingrix dose is the only vaccine or booster in my memory that took me down for a day. Better than shingles though. Having watched family members suffer for months and folks lose eyesight from shingles I can feel bad for one day and have a sore arm for 6.

Please use condoms and also know that you are loved and worthy of that love. I wouldn’t put it past the current administration to cut funding for PREP. Please be safe, I’m too old for another round of senseless deaths.

It feels surreal to be planning my 60th birthday weekend knowing we’ve done the same thing for 30 years because 32 years ago I attended a funeral on my birthday.

I don’t begrudge any creature finding a meal. The hawks have killed birds and a fox that slipped into the city limits nabbed a few birds. Raccoons will kill multiple birds by ripping out their throats or biting off feet and leave the remains. I’m simply not a fan.

The Dr commented on the level of trust she had in me and her advanced age. It wasn’t a difficult decision to let her go due to her other physical state but damn it hurt euthanizing that arthritic old girl. A younger bird could have endured the healing of a split bill.
It was too much for Kitty.

After a raccoon infected with distemper cracked her bill and we rushed her to the vet hospital on the neighboring campus she never really showed much trust in me. When the doctor tried to examine her she panicked until I reached out and held her. She settled right in stayed calm until the end. 1/2

Thinking about this old girl today. Kitty Wells lived to be 11 after being rescued from a rough situation in what we assume was her first year. I never thought she liked me until her final day.
