A couple of people who have bought books from my site recently have told me that their kids enjoyed reading them, so they’re giving them to their grandkids. Before I know it, I’ll be getting similar messages about great grandkids. 😳

The current government's pledge to put a library in every primary school by 2029 is commendable, but we need libraries in every secondary school too.

If not, we risk many children, particularly those from low income families, having their reading habits broken at a critical age.

The Greens won against Reform *in Kent*

It's all up for grabs folks.

The myth of Reform's inevitability is just that, a myth. They can be defeated.

The oft repeated claim that Mary Anning was a "hidden figure" of palaeontology does seem extremely ill-informed or disingenuous. I've no doubt she was subject to sex and class discrimination during her lifetime, but she was the ONLY palaeontologist I knew the name of when I was a child.

FYI: eating a pescatarian diet and buying green electricity won’t offset 40 flights in 6 years. I wonder what Riley will think when he’s grown up and living with the consequences of our lifestyles? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

You gotta boggle at the total lack of self awareness it takes to agree to do an interview like this, and claim you offset the enormous carbon footprint you're creating by...eating fish and using a green energy tariff.

Flight Free UK Fight climate change: make the pledge to be flight free in 2026

… If the BBC was remotely serious about promoting environmental sustainability, it it would be platforming the work of organisations like @flightfreeuk.bsky.social, rather than repeatedly promoting frequent flying for leisure.

Portraying sustainability on-screen

When it comes to the content our audiences watch, listen and read, the BBC needs to ensure that it’s reflecting the changes we’re seeing in society towards more sustainable ways of living. We have a responsibility to help our audiences understand the impact of climate change and the steps we can take to transition to Net Zero.

… At a time of accelerating #ClimateBreakdown, it is irresponsible journalism and entirely at odds with the BBC's supposed commitment to promoting sustainable ways of living on screen.

I'm utterly fed up of seeing stories promoting 'extreme day tripping' on the BBC News site. This is the 7th!

They sometimes include a couple of sentences acknowledging the environmental impact of flying, but on the whole they present it in a positive light.

BBC news article: "Why it could take months for fuel and food prices to return normal"

OOOOH I know this one!!!! Is it because prices are based on what we can be forced to pay, not how much the thing costs to provide? And capitalists will always jack up their prices if they think we'll be tricked into paying? Is it that?

My new radio/podcast series Puffed Up starts today! Its fun and stupendously interesting. Featuring the origin of wind and brass instruments, the importance of inflatables, and dentistry. Given the moon fly by today the series also covers inflatable space craft which are a big thing for NASA.

PHOTO: A cinema with the front row of seats replaced by exercise equipment.

We’re excited to announce a major new development coming to our cinemas. From this week, we will begin transforming the front rows of selected auditoriums by replacing traditional seating with state-of-the-art fitness equipment.

This new concept allows guests to enjoy the latest blockbusters while staying active — whether that’s getting your steps in on a treadmill, cycling through a high-speed chase, or powering through a workout during your favourite scenes.

Our aim is to redefine the cinema experience by combining entertainment and wellbeing, offering a space where you no longer have to choose between watching a film and keeping active.

We look forward to welcoming you to a new era of cinema!

The future of film is moving.

The public wants religion out of schools and politics, new polling shows New polling has found strong public support for keeping religion out of politics and public institutions, with large majorities opposing religious privileges in Parliament, state schools, and publicly...

New polling shows a *massive* gap between our laws & public opinion. 60% oppose state-funded schools selecting pupils by religion, & two thirds want an end to bishops' automatic seats in the Lords. Time for our institutions to reflect the diverse, majority non-religious country we are today.
