I was fully ready for it to, and the characters (and players) were all at a point of not knowing the full deal but knowing enough to understand why he’d go through with it. We also debriefed before & after sessions to separate the group dynamics in and out of session which I think helped too
… through working together we made it so that every interaction wasn’t grating or frustrating, that there were enough aligning story beats/traits/links to keep things moving forward, and to the point where the big thing was due to happen, to mine and everyone else’s surprise the player didn’t do it
I’d second chatting with the DM about it and letting the party know there might be antagonising stuff; having that kind of character IMHO doesn’t and shouldn’t have to grate a lot against the narrative if or when done well?
Like I had a player whose goals were fully opposed to the rest of the team

Game workers do not receive any residuals/royalties on shipped titles and shipping bonuses are increasingly rare. There's also no guarantee that your name will even be in the credits if you leave before ship, and studios will use this to keep you compliant.
