A promising sign out of Stratford: It looks like incoming AD Jonathan Church is following through on his desire to cast a wider net for talent across Canada, with audition stops scheduled in St. John's, Montreal, Vancouver, Regina, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Toronto. (But no Ottawa?)

For those of us who like things neat and orderly, the 2024–25 Broadway season has been very pleasing indeed.
Out of 42 shows, there were:
14 new musicals
14 new plays
14 revivals
Of those 14 revivals, there were:
7 musical revivals
7 play revivals
And overall, there were:
7 British productions
🎉London's West End theatres are enjoying record ticket sales and drawing millions of pounds of investment as a pandemic-era tax break that will become permanent next month persuades some producers to choose Britain over Broadway.🎭

The Wiz features in two separate big production numbers at the Oscars and is the play-off music for the whole thing?! Surely something’s in the works. Remake?!
The Wiz is the big winner tonight! #oscars
Paul Tazwell, who made history at the Oscars, won a Tony for his costumes for "Hamilton."

Just a reminder that you can pre-order my new book JOHN CANDY: A LIFE IN COMEDY (out October 7, from House of Anansi) and that it’s written by a Canadian about a beloved Canadian, with a Foreword by another celebrated Canadian and it’s published by a 100% Canadian publisher. 🇨🇦✊🏻
So happy this dream project is finally announced!

The photo shows the album cover for "Road Apples" by The Tragically Hip. The cover features a red background with the band name "THE TRAGICALLY HIP" and the album title "ROAD APPLES" spelled out in black and white letter tiles, respectively. In the center, there is a rectangular image of a horse standing in a field with trailers or mobile homes and mountains in the background.
On this day in 1991, The Tragically Hip released their second studio album Road Apples.
It became their first #1 album in Canada, produced several hit songs and is remembered as one of the best albums of the 1990s to this day.
Let's learn more about it!

Love that mug!
Glad the Toronto production of Come From Away got the chance to truly come to the end of its run.
It will be excellent news for the country's regionals to get the rights.
And may the Gander production be an annual tradition to rival Anne in Charlottetown. www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/theatre...
Come From Away in Gander begins June 29 and runs until August 31! Tickets at artsandculturecentre.com
It is Saturday Night Live's 50th birthday, so enjoy my thread from last month that looked at the many Canadians who helped bring SNL to life in 1975!

I trust you will be very happy you listened!
Trudeau is about to start singing something from Come From Away, isn’t he?
But truth is, he’s killing it.
This black-and-white photograph captures a scene likely from a classic sitcom or drama, given the setting and attire. The room is furnished with a sofa, a coffee table, and a side table with a lamp, suggesting a living room environment. The decor includes framed pictures on the walls, which adds to the domestic setting. The individuals in the photo are dressed in a mix of casual and semi-formal attire, indicative of the late 1970s or early 1980s fashion. The central figure in the foreground, leaning on the coffee table, appears to be engaging in a conversation or negotiation with the person on the left, who is dressed in a suit and tie,
Saturday Night Live is celebrating its 50th season, and when it debuted half a century ago, there were a lot of Canadians bringing it to the screen.
From its creator to actors to writers, SNL's creation was full of Canadian connections.
