Sounds like a very similar sort of journey. I'm definitely not alone with it. I know @rubberliam.bsky.social had a similar awakening with some rubber gloves when he was young.
For me there were certain things I knew I was drawn to from a very young age, before I knew why. I knew I was into gas masks and bikers before I knew I was into guys for example. I don't know if everyone's experience is similar.
