This is important because (1) it describes a new type of neural input to muscles; (2) impulsive inputs impact on typical EMG/MU population metrics assuming stationarity such as PSD or coherence; (3) impulsive inputs can 'de-linearize' the transmission of other signals by the MU pool.

We recently published a preprint in which we propose that motor units receive impulsive common inputs in addition to continuous neural inputs. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
