This was, ultimately, the point of substack: throw money at reactionary bloggers, claim that this is a new media and not just fissioning off the clicky bits from legacy publications, then let the price of media giants drop enough for all the worst people to buy them up and install their media pets.

a good minicomic is a like good sandwich. same size, same price, same amount of time to consume, and it kind of looks like a sandwich
I think a lot about this ages-ago gonzo @carolinehaskins.bsky.social essay on AirPods and how it is still right www.vice.com/en/article/a...
And the reason why I keep banging on about it is because the politics we get if more of us understand this technological shift and its implications is a hell of a lot better than what we get if we think that we have to protect ourselves from privation and suffering, even if it means dooming others.
My level of optimism or pessimism about whether any particular group of humans will get their act together and actually do it varies by the day. But that it’s now physically and technologically possible to transition to renewables and to use that energy to close materials loops isn’t in doubt.
same but I have like 3 of each of them from redundant back-ups 🙃
*taps mic* a moment of recognition for parsifal press: their books are beautifully but economically designed. they scale their growing business judiciously so they can do right by themselves and their artists. they are absolutely delightful as individuals.

Do you know about my most recent book, Support Craft? It was nominated for the Cartoonist Studio Prize and flattered by Thomas Campbell as “one of the biggest surprises I’ve come across in comics in quite some time.” You can get it here, at Parsifal Press.

A post depicting an orange and purple balloon rising over green hills, with children and families lounging on clouds around it.

THE RISE OF END TIMES FASCISM
My first major piece of the new Trump era, co-written with @astra.bsky.social.
The governing ideology of the far right has become a
monstrous, supremacist survivalism.
Our task is to build a movement strong enough to stop them. www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...
Some more line artwork from Henninger, a book of one very long street — A friend brought this one back from Angoulem a few years ago.

some process:
I added a dozen new drawings (~ one second) to my glacial pace animation this winter. At this rate I'll probably be done with it in like 5 years and it will around 12 seconds long

Left or right, what strikes me is just the total male domination of this chart.
Becky Burke of Book Island (a picture book publisher in the UK founded by my fellow Tokarczuk translator Greet Pauwelijn) was "detained" by ICE at the Canadian border on 2/28. Her father asked that her story be shared in case someone can help her. He writes:
go get em!
im happy I'm in SF for this!

will be in the bay area next week visiting fam but spending as much time as possible in forests
yes please do! I think about that too. I bet it's not good news... but I've been seeing more of the rigid ones that can be returned to stores-- i wonder if they're reused or just recycled.
Thanks so much! This will definitely be in there and I'd love to take you up on that!
on top of a table, a half-globe shows China and the US facing off with missiles and ships and jets (yes those are F-35Cs). Beneath the table at desks and white boards and conference tables, researchers of all stripes and nationalities collaborate and talk green energy in a collaborative fashion. It rules.
How do you illustrate the importance and possibility of back-channel diplomacy beneath superpower tensions? @dan-nott.bsky.social knows! and nailed it for this story in the International Policy Journal launch internationalpolicy.org/publications...
Dan rules and his art is so good, especially and incredibly at making the complexity of the world clear and comprehensible. Really excited for this book and what folk urge him to research.
I'm currently researching a new book that was just announced. Looking at waste and recycling along with materials and supply chains to visualize the life cycle of objects. send me your questions and favorite rabbit holes!
i coordinate a reading program like this at my local elementary school. it does make a big difference and everyone gets something out of it
