I can't speak for the Mastodon/Fedi folks, but on Bluesky, there is a good setting:

Settings > Accessibility > Alt text > "Require alt text before posting"

Turn that setting ON! That forces you to take that extra 30s before you post.

(In truth, I'd forgotten to turn it on myself. Fixed that.)
