... a simple thing such as the GP ordering urgent blood tests, but not realising that the next available appointment was 2 weeks away. I intervened and they happened the next day. The AML diagnosis came the same day as the blood tests.
I don't have any recommendations for literature but I've of the hardest things was striking the balance between being the awkward relative and trusting a system that I know can work brilliantly but is stretched to capacity....

Training GP practice teams to discuss poverty and support patients experiencing poverty-related mental distress increased understanding of causes of distress; helped avoid inappropriate prescribing; and enabled coordinated team support

A bright pink sideboard with open doors showing two cats crouched on shelves one above another.
I've been renovating a room in our #OldHouse. Gypsum off, lime on, limewashing this weekend. But I've also been upcycling old furniture.
The cats seem impressed with the sideboard that's going in my study!
This moment when the penny drops that trying to implement bathroom bans is an impossibility for the former Tory Chief Secretary Simon Clarke is delicious.
One problem with ‘AI v Doctor’ diagnostic studies is that most diagnoses are either obvious or emergent (ie have an unfolding-over-time dimension in which an ongoing clinician-patient relationship can prove crucial). Also, the most important things a GP knows are a) whether to refer and b) to whom.
Doctoral thesis successfully defended.
Huge thanks to @simondymond.bsky.social and Alan Finnegan for a great discussion of my thesis this morning. And to Dan @leightley.bsky.social, Nicola and Neil for the last few years of supervision!

I've been terrible for using Bluesky but going to make an effort!
#Medsky - check out our latest paper in #BMJSRH:
"Experiences of abortion in the UK Armed Forces: a cross-sectional survey."
Give it a read and share your thoughts with us!

Thank you very much to all the BJGP Open readers who spent a bit of their time with our article. Number 2 in last year's most read!
Oh wow! That's brilliant.
I shall definitely do that Rebecca! Clearly both have overlap with my military area of interest.
I'm looking forward to the BJGP Research Conference on Friday. Anyone else going to be there?

Wow! No corrections!
Impressive stuff. Congratulations Dr Dakin!
Great to see this work in print. Hopefully adding to the evidence that we need to recognise there is a need for ongoing perimenopause management and support in the UK Armed Forces.
Our latest paper is out in #BMJSRH.
Currently open access so feel free to have a look and let us know what you think.

If you're an early career researcher, or a wise guru of general practice research, come along and say hello!
Thank goodness for Oliver Bonas at Euston. Now we just need an M&S for emergency tights!
Doctorate submitted on Wednesday. Now I'm a little uncertain what to do this weekend!
I think I've forgotten what I'm supposed to do other than work
Can I please ask #AutismBlueSky...
The ADOS assessment... aren't they toads and not frogs?
It's causing a lot of discussion in our house tonight!
I usually give it a bit longer cos I'm stubborn and know sometimes they get better...
But also, life's too short so move on.

Is it just me or do the oscillations between love and hate swing ever more frequently as you get closer to the submission deadline?

Yes. Now downstairs. More space to work, some computers, booths for meetings and more comfy chairs.

Noooo! I can't cope with TNR anymore! Got to be arial, or calibri at a push. Years of defence writing means Arial 11 pt is ingrained in my whole being.
Not needed! Tea, coffee, mocha etc, fresh flavoured water, bottles of cold water in the fridge, nibbles and fruit all available here.
And there's a handful of coffee shops and restaurants within 2 min walk.
In London for a meeting of the Defence Professors and have arrived far too early. I do like being able to get work done at the @rcgp.bsky.social members' lounge. It's very quiet here though!
