Developed some color negative the other day. I’ve scanned a couple rolls but will need to redo them after they flatten out. Here are a couple frames that *weren’t* covered in Newton rings.

Thanks Maureen!
Thanks Peter! That’s definitely one of my favorites from the day.
Recently spent a morning all by myself at this wonderful place.

I meter it at 80 for 510 Pyro. For Rodinal I I will usually overexpose by 1/3 unless I don’t have much Zone 3 shadow. I overexpose 2/3 with a slight pull (~10%) if I’m going to dev at 1+50, which I often do when using Rodinal.
As you can probably tell, I could go on forever about how much I love this stuff. I think it’s by far the most underrated film out there right now. Here’s something I wrote about it on Substack.

Can be a cool look if you’ve got someone with freckles or are looking for a grittier portrait, but it’s not going to give your subject the bright glowy skin of some other stocks. I also really like it for red rock landscapes and was pretty bummed to be all out of it on my last road trip.
As you can see, I like to use it on hazy/foggy days to get a higher key final image. It also separates greens really well so foliage doesn’t all end up as a middle gray mess. Anything orange or red will render darker, so texture, freckles, and blemishes on skin really show up….
510 Pyro holds on to highlight details extremely well, and you end up with a lot of highlights because the density builds up fastest on the short end of the spectrum with this film.
If you plan to dev in Rodinal I’d give it an extra 1/3 of a stop, maybe even 2/3 at higher dilutions. Also looks good in DD-X 1+4 and X-Tol 1+1. HC-110 1+31 and 1+47 are both fine but less remarkable. Microphen is…not as good.
Ortho 80 is my favorite currently manufactured film and high in the running for my favorite ever. I’ve developed it in 6 or 7 different developers, and my favorite, at least for landscapes is 510 Pyro (which is my favorite for most films). Rodinal is also a great choice if you like glowy highlights.
Yes, the primary question I ask myself when loading a roll is “If not now, when?” I just haven’t been shooting as much color (of any stock) as I used to.
I’ve always loved 400H. Slowly working through my last 25 rolls in 120 and trying to balance my desire to shoot it with the fact that it is no longer widely available. It will likely all go through my GA645 to maximize frame count.

At some point, will there be a Pan F Party?

I also love it for that exact reason. Coastal features through bright, mid-day marine layer? 🧑🍳🤌💋
I went for a Mufasa in the clouds thing here, and didn’t realize until I was composing the second frame that I’d be chopping her face in half with the mountains in the background. Still, it turned out better than I anticipated.

Kentmere Pan 200 @ 800
Wow. Absolutely love this!
I’ve also learned that it’s actually just Agfa Aviphot 200, rebranded and advertised as a 400 iso film, which it isn’t. So that explains the thin shadows, while over-developing based on their wacky times explains the loss of highlight detail. It’s also the exact same film as Rollei Superpan 200.
I’ve learned from my last experience with it. The dev times quoted by Rollei are all completely insane. I literally developed this roll for HALF the time that was quoted to get the densities I was after. Massive Dev also can’t be trusted with it. It’s a real journey of self-discovery.
I think you mean, “Thah..”

Thanks Peter!

I do the same. I will admit, however, I have a very liberal definition of “special purpose.” Overall, my mix of 135 rolls to 120 rolls is just about 1:1. I just tell myself I’m shooting many more frames with each roll of 35mm, and I give myself an extra little pat on the back when I shoot 1/2 frame.
Pan F just never disappoints. Don’t know why I don’t shoot more of it.
