As a millennial professor, this whiplash has been intense.
Full-time salaries for most categories of faculty have remained about the same since 2002, adjusting for inflation, while admin pay soars.
Faculty have had enough. We’re fighting back nationwide.

Opinion | In 2012, after I published From the Jaws of Victory, a history of the UFW that also revealed much of Chávez’s complicated truth, I faced backlash within this same community. bit.ly/3NNHrkw

Every single time a story like this is reported, we must assume that there are many many more that do not.
Check out my opinion piece at De Los from the Los Angeles Times on Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show as a history lesson.
This is the thing the cultural commodity spectacle of Super Bowl Sunday requires we bracket: the sport is predicated on human sacrifice.
The players you watch today are being killed in front you, slowly, whether it looks like it or not.
And the NFL can only get away with it because *we* watch.

A parent at a DC middle school is urging staff to reconsider its new curriculum, which removes all full-length novels from the 8th grade curriculum

from a thread about whether or not capitalism will "trump" racism. my 2 cents: mistakes here stem from a two very different orientations one can have: 1) capital is a key constraint on/enabler of political developments vs. 2) changes in capital *are* the (real) political developments
obviously plenty of other things should have already been disqualifying but people willing to defy Trump publicly and appeal to decency as their reason for doing so both seem pretty good

She reported him missing to Houston police. But instead of reuniting them, the city turned him over to ICE.
“They’re failing all of us,” his mom said.
