My deepfake doppelganger even fooled my own mother – that’s how difficult it is to spot AI-generated disinformation Deepfakes made headlines in Ireland this year after a video of Catherine Connolly appearing to drop out of the presidential election went viral.

It may sound an exaggeration to state your own mother could be fooled by a deepfake, but as these technologies continue to progress, this becomes the reality, as journalist Ian Smith recently noted.
