Sustainability is always #1 from a leadership standpoint IMO. It comes up every year, especially when there’s an administrator change. So much effort is spent on change and so little on sustainability to ensure what’s working in education is well supported and prioritized.

For elementary students, I recommend Here's Hank and Hank Zipster. They're 2 series with funny adventures of a boy w/learning differences. They're coauthored & inspired by the true-life experiences of Henry Winkler (The Fonz), who had undiagnosed dyslexia. www.penguinrandomhouse.com/authors/5594...
Our brains are wired to forget—unless we take active steps to remember. 🧠
In this week’s episode of School of Practice, we talk to @cathleenbeachbd.bsky.social, who shares her top 3 strategies to help students remember what she’s just taught them.

This is one of the most important topics we need to ensure students understand. The challenging part will be that the ways we determine whether something is real or fake will change over time and likely be a moving target. This podcast is a great resource on the topic!
This is a powerful activity. We make 3 categories-students sort the cards into columns under a category. After students are done, they check their work by tapping their finger on each card in the column and saying each one aloud. I have students do two sorts during RTI and take a pic using Seesaw.
You know how you explain a concept to students… and they’ve forgotten most of the information the next day? 🫠
It’s not just students. *All of us* are wired to forget what we’ve learned. The good news: A few small shifts can make learning stick longer and preserve the hard work of teaching.

“If you create the right centers, and teach the procedures, you too can enjoy the relaxing and exciting island in the middle of the school day that is math centers,” says teacher Sonja Cassella. ➗🏝️

I love doing descriptive writing with my students. The desert island activity sounds very interesting and I like that it provides engaging opportunities for students to practice so many important skills.
We also head to the supply closet to find examples of arrays (colored pencil and marker boxes, eraser boxes, and the best one- a staple box). One of these years, I'm going to have students hand-count the staples to see if there really are 5,000! 🤣
We use hallway walks to find parallels & perpendicular lines, geometric shapes, & to measure. For example, we measure the hallway using standard devices, & sometimes students discover they can also count the 1'x1' tiles to see if a blue whale would fit lengthwise in our hallway. (It does!🐳) 🙂

I saw a session by this author at ISTE a few years ago. It was fantastic and I encouraged her to write an article for #edutopia. I’m so glad she did. I try to channel my inner Mr Rogers along with a splash of Bill Nye! 🤷♂️
Also do any rich people or businesses follow me and would like to pledge to match our donation total at the end of our fund drive???
Such great questions and ideas here.
This week, I used this article, along with others from the Edutopia website, in a workshop where I taught abou several types of breaks. The teachers in my workshop loved the content!
today I'm pissed off that children will starve while the wealthy finance a gilded ballroom, so I'm channeling energy & creating a food bank funding drive using my platform/connections. grateful for @prisonculture.bsky.social consistently in my feed encouraging us to do something with what we've got
