Digital painting is very different from traditional painting like oils or watercolor, so I have to start from scratch and learn how to use those tools, starting black and white

Recreating of a drawing I did with charcoal about a decade ago, but this time digitally in Krita

1st step: using the video clip to very roughly sketch a few frames on top of it to get a feel for some key poses as they appear. Of course, being from Tiktok the clip is in portrait orientation, so most of the resulting video is white, but I think you get the idea anyways (sound on) #animation

1st challenge was to retrieve the raw material. Since I cannot download a proper clip I had to do some ffmpeg magic to extract the audio stream from a vid and use a screencast recorder to capture the video stream from a longer YT short. Now both are imported into a new OpenToonz project #animation

Spent some time reading through the OpenToonz docs, but it's time now for a new project. This time I want to include some music and sync audio and animation. Do you remember the funny Dumb Ways To Die clips on Tiktok? Seems to be a good next challenge to me 😊 #animation

Finally, all cel layers cleaned up and colorized, the full composite animation is finished

Finally the wagging tail on cel C rounds up the rough animation. It took a fair bit of work since despite onion skinning the tail kept wandering around. I had to draw all 24 frames by hand as Krita didn't behave as expected by copying&pasting frames

With B cell drawn in, Miu-chan will blink every 3 secs. Looks like straight out of one of those creepy point-and-click adventure games

Cel A drawing traced and tied down from the layout. Like the background this drawing will be held over the whole animation. Eyes and tail will go on cels B and C and be animated there

So far I'm not too happy with OpenToonz 1.7.1 running on Linux. Having to disable Wayland was only a minor issue, but I cannot use Toons Raster Levels as the application consistently crashes, which is a bit issue. Also it's behaving erratically quite frequently leaving no clue as to what happened

Another simple exercise. Instead of morphing two very different shapes I use motion to hide switching between them

Watched a blinking tutorial today and this is my adaptation. I used a model sheet of Ritsuko Akagi from Neon Genesis Evangelion and animated a blink both on threes (Anime style) and twos (Western style)
