The motion carries 6-5, overturning the decision from last week.
Duguay on the designation: "Has the property owner been made aware of council's decision [not to move forward with the designation?]" City staff say they aren't aware it was ever communicated to them.
The rationale was the owner of the property's fear of overregulation and risks to property value.
In Other Business, Coun. Bierk is moving to pull a report from last week relating to the designation as a heritage site of 172-174 Simcoe Street. The motion was previously voted down at general committee.
Along with the other consent items, I should mention. A small confusion on my part.
CORRECTION: The motion isolated actually pertained to a zoning bylaw amendment for 349 Parkhill Rd. East, which I discussed on here last week.
No discussion on the Link's renewal until March 2027, it is approved unanimously.
We've a pretty massive consent agenda, with very few motions isolated. The DEI report will be part of the consent agenda, but the Link motion is isolated for discussion.

She says Ali led a number of evening learning sessions and the DEI committee organized some "walk in my shoes" workshops with disabled community members, and collaborated with Trent's TACSU for some cultural events.

Now voting on the extension: carried unanimously.
Leal calls it a "win-win-win" for all those involved.
Leal is now moving for the extension of the Link pilot project providing bus service to residents of Selwyn, Lakefield and Curve Lake. The service is well-used by Trent students and held up by a collaboration between Selwyn and Peterborough's municipalities and the Trent Central Student Association.
The motion is lost 5-5.
"All due respect to my fellow councillor... historical significance is thinking beyond who lives here today," says Coun. Lachica, speaking in support of the designation.
Staff say the act is to enable municipalities to protect buildings of cultural value.
"If we continue down this path... we don't have any history," says Coun. Bierk. He wants a "kohl's notes version" of what the Heritage Act requests of building owners.
Now onto the designation of 172-174 Simcoe St. as a heritage site. The owner told Coun. Bierk he opposed the designation, due to associated costs and restrictions on his ability to renovate his property.
Now voting on recommendations from the DEI report, including edits to the Council Code of Conduct. Carried unanimously.

Coun. Baldwin wonders if Project SEARCH could include public schools, and Ali says this would imply new costs for the City and public schools. "It's been a challenge" finding interns for the program already, she explains.
