Our audition was rejected with the reasoning “you don’t take music seriously.”

For those familiar with NBW lore, this moment would be the genesis of the experimental 2008 song “We Don’t Take Music Seriously” which was a foreshadowing of the type of music we’d go on to make.

19 years ago we held a band practice, which was I believe, an audition tape for the high school Battle of the Bands. My recollection is that this pic is from that. My memory is fuzzy. This would have been taken in between “Jumping the Shark” and “Advanced at Nothing.”

That EP was intended to be a “bridge EP” between the “comedy music” era and the new “psychedelic” era. It featured several of the “best” cuts from EHS and a few new songs.

Sharktopus is the staple track from it. 🦈

Today we look at… favorite song from Exploding Head Syndrome OR Graze the Skylines??

Although they were recorded at the same time, they are very different.

I like Revolution 42. We worked on it over a span of years! It was originally going to be on a “beatles parody” album.

You Are What You Eat? A pretty bad EP really. But “Fan Fiction” was a mini-hit so I can’t complain much.

I gotta go with the clown that appears on the entire psychedelic trilogy album covers. 🤡

"Still Alive Uranium" could have been an ok parody, but I think it misses the mark.

"Raichu a Song" remains the GOAT.

Advanced at Nothing is the final album in the “high school trilogy” - the largely forgotten amateur albums.

“ScienLOLojyuuichi” is obviously the “best” song on it, being that it was our first viral hit ever.

But a standout is “We Don’t Take Music Seriously.”

Today we ask… what unreleased (non album track) songs of ours do you listen to?

There’s an unreleased outtake from Problem Attic called “Two Daddies” that I wish was out there. It’ll be released soon. There’s a demo on Bandcamp.

A long time ago we did song parodies.

What’s your favorite song parody in our catalog?

I have a soft spot for “Bare Facts” personally. We nailed the sound. I memorized the hell out of that iconic drum fill at the end!

Now, I channel my parody ideas into Holy Bongwater.

Today, we ask… what’s your favorite song on our 2nd high school album, Jumping the Shark with Style?

“Oxymoron” was probably the first signal of what Nuclear Bubble Wrap would eventually become. This was our first attempt at doing something outside of our usual style.

As we finish up Multiverses Redux, I have to shout out Lone Ranger which has become one of the finest sounding psychedelic songs in our catalog. With an honorable mention to the new mix of “Andromeda” which sounds SO different now

What’s your “favorite” song from the high school era?

We think “ScientLOLojyuuichi” is the obvious best one.

Wow, those forums are a throwback! Yeah, I posted a lot of early recordings there.

What’s a song you (perhaps ironically) like from our horrible album “Something Stupid This Way Comes”?

I may be biased, but “When I Grow Up I’m Gonna be a Mongoose” has a long history as a pre-NBW “Weirdo Jace” song, so to me it’s the most significant.
