xMEMS Expands µCooling Fan-on-a-Chip Technology to SSDs, Unlocking Onboard Active Thermal Management for AI Data Centers and Laptops
xMEMS Labs has unveiled the extension of its groundbreaking µCooling fan-on-a-chip platform to include solid-state drives (SSDs), introducing the industry's first in-drive active cooling solution for both enterprise E3.S form factor SSDs used in AI data centers and NVMe M.2 SSDs found in laptop PCs. Historically, SSD thermal regulation has depended on passive heat spreaders and airflow from system-level fans. However, these traditional approaches often prove inadequate under the intense, continuous workloads typical in AI, high-performance computing (HPC), and modern computing environments.
