🎼 Inspired by a post on another platform, I thought maybe I would launch my own #100Days100Songs

#100Days100Songs : #SOTD 79 is me finally caving into issues of #gender and communication styles. Sometimes you just have to jam your fingers into the wound to get to the damn point already.
Seven weeks and twenty-one songs to go.
Bloody hell, #100Days100Songs is 60% there. #SOTD 60, inspired by a 1:30AM visit by Ottawa’s finest to our back parking lot (no idea why), and all I could hear was their whispers, the bleeps of their radios, and someone’s dogs barking in the distance.
#100Days100Songs and...now halfway through! #SOTD 50 is “Somebody” : who are you, really, when primary relationships disappear? How effective is it to try to define yourself in the absence of significant others? (I hate how existential some mornings have gotten lately.)
(And with that, I’m almost halfway through #100Days100Songs...)
#100Days100Songs: #SOTD 49 is “Unmothering Sunday”, written as a bulerías de Jerez. Either because of the topic or the rhythm (prob. the former), this one will probably never actually get performed. If performed it’d sound like this: https://youtu.be/fgTjiQ_Qpg0
#100Days100Songs: today’s #SOTD (No. 48!) is “The Strings” - would Pinocchio have fought so hard for external validation if no one had told him he was a puppet in the first place?
Oh, the strings: Annoying, pitiful, despicable things.
I’ve let #100Days100Songs slide a bit over the past few weeks, but picked up steam over the past few days. Now up to #SOTD 42: “Hit and Smear” - inner critic ergo sum? Also noticing that strong, specific action verbs are fundamental to good songwriting.
And thus was born #SOTD 31, “Shell”, of #100Days100Songs. Slightly more poetic than my late father’s habit of standing on the back porch and yelling at the lawn, “Melt, you B*STARD!!” (This, decades before he was diagnosed with dementia.)
#100Days100Songs: #SOTD #30 (!!!) is “Nobody Gets to Choose”, a Grohl-inspired banger because... um ... (cough; blush) I’d really like to have a song some day in the opening sequence for #HNIC. I admit it.
#100Days100Songs: #SOTD #26 is “Out of the Frame”. As much as my dad used to love taking pictures, we have almost none of him. Is that normal? Is that why I’m so bad at taking pictures of myself, even now when that’s easier than it’s ever been?
#100Days100Songs: #SOTD 24 is “Headcases” - because some fandom will never die.
#100Days100Songs : #SOTD 23 is “Most Days”. Are you always what you think of as you most days? Why do we have so much trouble imagining that personalities don’t move from one day to the next?
#100Days100Songs: #SOTD 21 - “The Last Thing You’ll Ever Do”. Reproductive urges have a head-on collision with the crude realities of behavioural economics, to put it nerdily.
#100Days100Songs - #SOTD 20 is a takedown/an elegy to a bygone era, after reading an article about Iggy Pop’s 20 wildest moments onstage (and being bored stupid by phallic-centred songs from that era). Can’t decide if the title of said song is Twitter-friendly. (Probably isn’t.)
#100Days100Songs - #SOTD 19 : “Twice is Never an Accident.” Because it never is.
#100Days100Songs: songs 17 and 18 today, but the first has more promise. It’s about a recent online date I went on which ... had... screening questions.... for the second date.
Is “Who DOES that?!” acceptable as a chorus?
#100Days100Songs: #SOTD is “Draper”. (Not necessarily Don.) Because we all have curtains we pull closed and hide behind when we know someone can’t be bothered to look.
#100Days100Songs - #SOTD: “Let’s Go There”. Because it’s Friday and because we can’t travel. Let’s dig into the uncomfortable. Let’s not stay where we are. Let’s blow the boys’ hair back horizontal. Let’s be bigger dolls than the Dolls, be petty and break hearts. Let’s go there.
#100Days100Songs, Day 14 (15....?):
#SOTD is “Abandon” - if someone you love lets go of something they dearly love, how much responsibility do you have to save it? (Thinking inanimate object, here. And I know that *technically* the answer is “none.” But. But. But. But....)
#100Days100Songs: SOTD #13: "Cigarettes and Alcohol" . Another random one that's been rattling around in my head for years.
#100Days100Songs: Today’s #SOTD is “Our Friends From the North”, which sounds dangerously like Big Sugar’s “Dear Mr. Fantasy”, which is actually a song by Traffic. Taking “nothing new under the sun” to another degree.
#100Days100Songs: SOTD: “Down, Quijote”. Kind of self-explanatory, I guess.
#100Days100Songs: SOTD #10: "Firetruck."
What starts with an F and ends with U-C-K? A story of a fabulous, fun summer and absent friends.
#100Days100Songs, Day Five: "The Brothers Failure". Having one maladaptive behaviour undermining you in one thing; having two working in concert with each other is another level of hell.
Day 3 of #100Days100Songs : “Connection”, dedicated to “you beautiful, messy humans....just make sure the mess / comes before the beauty / not the other way around / and not one second more.”
Inspiration: a dream about my current crush, and a convo with my dentist this morning.
Day 2 of #100Days100Songs : “Blank”. Some serious Jane Siberry action here. I can’t tell if I’m expanding my scope or losing my marbles.
Installment 1 in #100Days100Songs is a bit of a cheat: “The Art of War”, composed of first lines (heavily tweaked) from famous books.
It’s slightly (very, probably) incoherent, but it’s done.
